Chicago Datacenter DDoS Attack
Nov 16, 2008 - 8:49pm EST
A portion of our Chicago servers are being affected by a large (gigabit plus) Denial of Service attack. We are working to mitigate the issue. Not ETA is available at this time, due to the severity of the attack.
Lets hope they don't know where the state of VA is.......

Re: Chicago servers experiencing DDoS attacks
These new large and sophisticated attacks have been hitting other game servers around the world - particularly in China and Korea, and existing DDoS protection devices have failed to stop them. There is a system called IntelliGuard that uses a new technology that has now successfully defended these Asian sites and is a proven defence for attacks on gaming sites. It does this because it does not rely on signatures, fingerprints, and anomalies to try to distinguish the bad guys from the legitimate traffic, and it can filter multi Gigabit traffic of small packets at true line speed. It's worth a look.

Re: Chicago servers experiencing DDoS attacks
Were the game servers really the target, or just in the damage radius?

Re: Chicago servers experiencing DDoS attacks
I would think they would be the target. Consider the amount of traffic on those servers. Online gaming is one huge busy industry. A hacker loves to piss off the most people at one moment. That's the rush they aspire for.

Re: Chicago servers experiencing DDoS attacks
they want maximum trouble... they should spam the internet with fake Diablo 3 release dates. or target blizzard alone. leave us poor folk, and our 4 year old games alone.

Re: Chicago servers experiencing DDoS attacks
Does it only affect BF2 POE servers? Or should this thread be in General? (People who don't play POE might not see it here. I just happened to spot it while scanning New Posts.)

Re: Chicago servers experiencing DDoS attacks
Scratch, it affects any game, database, social network that utilizes the Chicago server system. They were hitting on a particular cluster there.

lol j/k. It's affecting all gameservers in the Chicago area or at least Crysis as it was posted on a Crysis forum.
