Discussion: Battlefield 2 / Battlefield 2 - Point of Existence Discussion - Boys from Melitipol Bridge - On this bright Spring day in a strategic military outpost known as Melitopol, The UKR
On this bright Spring day in a strategic military outpost known as Melitopol, The UKR and the USA clashed in an epic battle for a tiny slice of land that may have turned the tide of the war for the US. The battle took place primarily on a bridge that separated the two factions. The US side held the Bridge flag in the beginning with awesome squadwork from Squinty, Bear, Rockford and myself. The only comforting feeling was knowing that we had our Armour Squad (JB4, Superfast, Draeh) backing us up the whole way. They were ready to fire Heap shells on command and they always had eyes on our backflag, without this, our mission of controlling the bridge for most of the round would've failed.
The US won an extemely close battle today but that is not what counts. What counts was the fact that both factions never stopped, not once, not never. When all the noise from the armour, AT rockets, grenades, sniper fire, screams of Medic finally ceased, and the Battle was over, not many people were left standing. The river beneath the Bridge was stained blood red from all the bodies that were put to rest there and no one knows if it will ever return to the tranquil blue that it once was. Many people from both factions lost their life on this historic day and let us never forget them.
So to the rest of this great community, Salute the "Boys from Melitopol Bridge".

I remember, though i wish i could forget. The sound of AT rockets and machine guns still shake me more than a day later. We had the perfect squad, THE best medic SL, 2 AT, and supply. We wanted for nothing, or so we thought. We managed to secure the bridge quickly and dug in. Then it happened. They just kept coming, Tanks, LAVs, Jeeps and on foot. Wrecked vehicles and bodies were everywhere. Sniper fire was brutal we had to keep our heads down, but Squinty and Rockford never stopped firing, to devastating effect. Me and my M249 sawed a Dozer with 3 enemy soldiers in it...... it burst into a fire ball and crashed into the river with no survivors, and for a moment I almost felt bad for those poor men, then HiTest slapped upside my head, and screamed for an ammo pack, and it was back on (surely they would have done the same to me). A couple of times the enemy broke our lines and I thought that this might be it, the end...... but somebody picked me up, and screamed "get on that flag" and we did, we all did.
And won the day.

Well said Bear! You really stepped up your game for this scrim, especially this battle.
I was a little surprised to hear that a few didnt like this map. For me it had everything going on that I enjoy. Armor, Infantry, Tactics, Teamwork, Running over friendly mines ( I blame Rockford for that one ), ah mean cmon. I thought JB4 did an awesome job communicating with myself over TS and the comms within my squad were top notch. I wish i had the know-how and the tools required to make a video of some of those fights.
It just goes to show that even 8 on 8 can get cranking.

Good communication in a squad is always critical and the scrim reminded me just how critical it is between squads also. Even though we were a 3 man squad supporting the frontline boys, we were much more coordinated in our movement and actions when you would say, "hey, can you make a push with us on this flag" or "vehicle, west side going for back flag" or I could let you know of our intentions about moving to a new position. I laughed to myself one time when I sent you a message saying, "armor en route to bridge to spam heap" and your response was, "please do". LOL Good inter and intra squad communication worked well on all maps where we new when to flex forward to support you and when to defend back.
On Melitipol, draeh and Superfast kept good left and right positions to not only cover the sides of the bridge, but have open spotting on their respective sides to protect the back cap. We always seemed to know when they were coming due to great spotting and communication and seemed to have a better chance of holding them off. As for fighting on the bridge, there are not many places to hide when attacking so the straight up fighting is going to be intense. All who were there did a great job being persistent. Both sides brought their intensity to the scrim and even with 8 per side, things got pretty wound up and that makes it fun.
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
