AAR? Embarrassing stories?

After being in, out, and then in again, I realized at 4:50 I didn't have the map pack, but you guys were at 5v5.

Even after I registered at a 1.5MB site, the map pack said I didn't have POE2 installed, so that probably would have required a reinstall anyhoo.

Re: POE2 Scrim Sunday May 31

Stories, eh? The map was new to many of the players, fast paced, frontline-style games, and tons of back and forth CP battles. I don't remember a recent game where we had to recapture a CP that many times. Fast movers played a crucial role on this map, both sides relied heavily on the race cars, err... "jeeps" to make those fast strike, insta-caps. Example, The Rockford successfully neutralized or capped our CP at least half a dozen times in the second and third games. We were up one player 6 vs 5 the first game (cap out = win), even 6 vs 6 second game (win), and we were down one player 5 vs 6 most of the third game (huge lead, insta-capout = loss). Our SL (Khaerus) had this crazy strategy and lead our team on these constant, relentless attacks, which resulted in us dominating all three games... even in the last game where we had a huge lead, but lost to a sudden cap out. I'm not exactly sure about the details of our strategy because I was on defense 95% of the time. The last game was really weird, we started off with Zippy as SL, then his supercomputer (w/ Intel Quadcore monstrosity) lost his internetsss connection... and we switched SLs once or twice that game.

Personally, I thought this scrim was more productive and less hectic than the one a couple months ago. On offense, I was getting owned by opposing players Drunken, Trouble, The Rock... so I found myself in charge of defending our forward CP. Or maybe it was because my audio driver decided to conflict w/ newly installed software and crap out mid scrim. My mic worked, but found out after the scrim that it sounded like crap (or "sounds like a toilet bowl" -- Axis). I definitely put my mic to good use, radioing for help when I found myself outgunned by The Rock and The Britt. Anyway, big thanks to all those who made it to the scrim!

Re: POE2 Scrim Sunday May 31

Story: I was up early that day and by 6pm i was tired out, so i decide to take a nap, sleeping right through most of the scrim. I managed to play the final round at almost midnight my time.

Yea, I can't figure out why I'm an MD5 tool kick magnet, although it seems I'm not alone as others are having the same kick as well on our server. The 2 minute wait time is silly and messes up our teamplay. But I did have a fun time during all the rounds. The Train Station and Warehouse battles were great. Nice job on both sides of pushing and defending. Before the last round I offered to give Khaerus a break and takeover as SL. Things went well at first as we capped the Warehouse, and then right when I put the attack marker on the last flag my PC locked up . After reboot and loading the map our side was now down to 3 vs 5, until DP joined, and pinned back at our last flag for the unfortunate capout . But hey, good for them to win one round...

Yes, your mic did sound like a fish/toilet bowl. Drivers are a funny thing. I had problems with the onboard audio of this new X58 motherboard (Asus P6T Deluxe V2). The HD drivers kept muting my in-game mic due to a conflict between the mic and line-in ports. I disabled the onboard audio and put in a sound card which immeditely solved the problem. Now you can hear me before every round in squad channel, until the last few seconds when PB kicks me... then again after I rejoin . Also, updating to new drivers can add new features and solve past bugs, and/or they can create new problems. I later figured out that my PC lockup was from the ATI 9.4 Video Card (GPU) drivers. Turns out they have some problems with CrossoverX (2 video cards) setups using the new 4800 series cards - mine are the 4870 1MB versions. I uninstalled the 9.4 drivers and then installed the 9.3 drivers, and all is good again. Except for Punkbuster. Might be the routing order from the East Coast server to my location in So. California. Something about sabotaging USC alumni and Lakers fans...

Oh well.

Project, I think senility has finally set in. I know, you had relatives over for your B-Day, were busy, tired, didn't realize no map pack - bla, bla, bla... (cough) Reagan (cough) Geritol (cough) Tito, pass me a tissue... (GenX humor).

But seriously bud, don't feel bad, young Fighter had the same "no map pack" problem too.

When we do the next scrim, as per Trouble's suggestion, I'll try and post a torrent of the maps for that day, so beginners can simply download a smaller file for gameday and be able to join the server.

Have Fun Out There,

-Zzzip
