How to spot for arty
1 Use a kit that has binoculars (specops, and maybe sniper - not sure there)
2 Use the binoculars to spot your target (press left mouse button) now the confirmation of the coordinates will flash in red letters.
3 Switch to the transmitter
DONE! - see the red arty marker on the map to see if it worked.
Now why doesn't it work??
-Someone has to be sitting in the seat that controls the arty gun, if not - no arty sign on the map, no ability to spot anything.
-It was there but the symbol immediatly dissapears. That means the gunner saw your first arty icon, but he swithced seats, making the symbol disappear. Spot again.
-There is another arty symbol preventing you to spot (only one allowed at a time). Solution; ask the artillery gunner who should be reachable by voip to switch seats. This will remove the old sign and let you spot again.
Hope this lessens the confusion a bit. Plz add any details I overlooked. What it's like to play online games as a grown-up:http://s3.amazonaws.com/theoatmeal-i...e_gaming/1.jpg

Re: How to spot for arty
There is a known bug that you have to be in the 2nd zoomed view as well.

Re: How to spot for arty
The funny thing is the system for spoting taget for arti has already rendered useless, when the CO is firing the arti. The CO view will work just find for aiming.

Re: How to spot for arty
As a side question, I was playing as Assault Friday night and noticed that I had binocs and the tac radio. I tried to call in a few arty spots, but wasn't sure if they were going through. Can the Assault kit do this?

Re: How to spot for arty
All kits with binoculars can spot for arty as far as I have gathered.
Also I've scanned the buglists in the POE forums and there is a known bug that spotting appears at the same point even though the spot was marked on another point :0--

The art of war is simple enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike him as hard as you can, and keep moving.

Re: How to spot for arty
I tried to do some spotting Friday 9/1/06, and the red arty icon was much closer to me than what i was spotting.
Any tips on getting a good spot?(PO3) Marcinko_R. (BF2 PR .509) Squad Member

Re: How to spot for arty
Yesterday, we also tried it out with the artillery but noticed a bug.
i was the sniper who spotted, but at one map, whereever I spotted, the artillery was always signed on a nearby bridge.
So he bombed it ... i spotted again and the bridge was signed again.
Anyone else noticed something like that?

Re: How to spot for arty
Greetings, welcome to TG. nice first post.
If u like to play on the TG server feel free to check out my sig with regards to the qucikstart guide and FAQs.
Yeah, the spotting seems to be buggy.
Looks like the CO, with their zoom function, will be the best arty spotter.
Granted it is frowned upon for the CO to be in the arty cause it takes a lot of focus to lead a Platoon. And it takes a lot of focus to work the arty well. Players should chose one or the other and not both.(PO3) Marcinko_R. (BF2 PR .509) Squad Member

Re: How to spot for arty
You actually don't need to have the spot on the area you want to arty. All you need is a spot anywhere on the map to get the sattelite view active and from there you can walk the artillery in to any target you want. Even though the actual spot may be somewhere else on the map.
