Question Re Jet/attack heli squad

Played the passworded night on Tuesday, and will, wife allowing join ya on Tuesday night again, as it was bloody good fun

However, heres the question. I do like to jet jocky a bit, and I was wondering whats the score re getting a shot in an aircraft or heli, if theres already a squad setup for it?

Map in and out the squad retains its name and would like to know the method or SOP if there is one to play a map in the jet or attack helo.

Fair play if the guys have got there first and set up a squad, but in subsequent maps, I would like to play in that position. The chance are that my usual gunner may be persuaded to come along and join in, and if not quite happy to have any co pilot that would like to join me.

Not a bad pilot, and play the role in its inteneded manner with a pretty high success rate, setting up the gunner a lot to keep the aircraft in the air as log as possible.

Also use VOIP, and will follow co orders for attack orders supporting ground squads.

Help in this matter would be appreciated.

Cheers

Re: Question Re Jet/attack heli squad

Heli and Jet squads are created for several reasons:

- To allow the commander to issue orders to that asset and talk direct to the pilot.
- To get pilots out of infantry squads so they don't take up valuable infantry spots.
- Jets being in the same squad allows fighters to coordinate and talk with the bomber. "Fighter on my tail...need help" etc
- Chopper pilot and gunner can communicate to each other with no other interference.

Most of that is probably obvious. Now for how to get a turn in these vehicles. Well its not that hard. Even if already in use, I would imagine just about every server regular will respond favorably to a polite request to take turns in the vehicle. If there are 3 jet spots and 4 people want to fly that round...well just take turns. Of course we do not desire to see a bunch of people waiting for aircraft. If there are too many people waiting around for vehicles then your team will suffer on the ground. Try to keep this in mind. Ideally the same two players should not be hogging the same chopper every round throughout a night. If no one else jumps in then sure...get that asset in the air again and help your team. Basically just remember that this is a server where the players are expected to conduct themselves in a mature manner. Polite requests to the current chopper team to allow you and your buddy to get in next map will usually do the trick.

p.s. Don't forget Saturday is password night too!

Re: Question Re Jet/attack heli squad

What Mantis said: just join the squad and ask. Do note that when there are many non-TG people playing (during afternoons or early evening, US time), you might not get a favorable response, if any. There might not even be a Jets squad then, even. However, if the Jets/Helo squads are manned by TG regulars, this approach should do the trick.

Another tip when there are more people in the squad than there are seats in the air: pick up a mobile or static AA vehicle. Then coordinate with the crews in the air to reduce any pesky enemy flyers to rubble.

Re: Question Re Jet/attack heli squad

1) join squad

2) "hey guys - bam here... mind if i catch a few flights?"

3) depending on how survivable the current pilots are, either man the AA or help with Artillery while you wait.

(I've never had anyone say no... and at least half the time it's more like "sure man, i gotta get going anyway" )
