    Reminder - Squad Leader Voice

Even though it's not a written rule, I'd like to encourage all players to avoid taking the role of squad leader spot if they are unwilling or unable to use in-game VoIP to communicate with their troops as well as the commander. Furthermore, all squad leaders should be using the in-game map or SL compass-rose to issue orders to their troops.

If all squads are full and you must create a squad to play, please remember to rotate out of the SL seat when a willing SL shows up. Don't be afraid of taking the job of SL if you aren't familiar with it - just don't take it if you do not have voice comms. A functional SL makes the game better for everyone.

Here! Here! This is one of my pet peeves. The best games I've played are when the SL is vocally active and laying down markers.

Now how do we get this to all the new pubies out there when they join? This frustrates the heck out of me. I go to join their squads and support some NON-TGers and break em in like the admins want, but there is a definite lack of VOIP out there.

Guy's I agree with 100%, but I just started using VOIP last night and didn't use it very much in fear of over talking.

I've stuck around in squads that had squad leaders w/o VOIP just to make them feel welcome. Spawn on them and try to make intelligent kit decisions and follow orders... You can talk and make suggestions and such like a good teamplayer, just that your SL won't talk back. I've had one or two that did everything a good SL should, except not have VOIP.

Re: Reminder - Squad Leader Voice

More than half the time recently I've joined squads where the leader did not have voip. Lately I've been asking at the outset for a SL mic check. If I don't get one I then ask for orders (usually there is no marker set down). If I don't get a response I leave but not before I tell them why. Sounds harsh but I'm not sure how else to handle it....this whole issue seems like an opportunity to deliver the "TG" message to those who need to get it most.

You started correctly by asking for a mic check and following up with a request for orders. If the SL fails to provide orders however, please report this to an admin so that we can make sure we get SLs in place that do follow orders.

I second that. The best way to handicap a squad is for the SL to have no VOIP. Mic.... $10. Sound cards ALL have mic in plugs.

Re: Reminder - Squad Leader Voice

The other pet peeve I have is when a SL has to drop out and all of a sudden people start leaving and joining to avoid SLing. I have seen this way to much from people who have been hear at TG much longer than POE. Come on people at least give it a try it's not going to kill you and the lame excuse of " I am not very good at it" just doesn't fly. I am not a very good SL either but I do it and seems lately I have to do it ALL the time. There are some very good SLs here at TG and their squads are always full because no one is willing to at least try a little to develope into a decent SL. So quit this leave/join squad thing to avoid being a SL, who knows you might be the next Bommando or Lucky Shot. End rant sorry

Roger that...I've been lazy of late and been playing w/o TS on. Will do next time...further...I guess I'd ask the offending SL be moved aside gently rather than kicked from server.

If you're not on TS, then try typing enough information into text chat for an admin to see.

You may also want to ask the SL to just step down if he's not giving orders and let someone else in the squad lead. The guy could be a great team player... just not a good team leader.

He also may be unaware that he's the SL! This has happened to all of us.

It shouldn't. The game displays a message indicating that you are the squadleader of your squad, not to mention seeing your icon on the minimap change from a green dot to a gigantic circumscribed number.

Re: Reminder - Squad Leader Voice

Granted, it doesn't take long to realize it, but when I'm playing I don't look at the bottom right of my screen very often. I have heard over VOIP, "Sorry guys, I didn't realize I was SL" more than once.
