Looks like the POE2 devs will address the Mobile AA abuse issue...
There is a pretty big thread in the suggestions forum...just today though I noticed a response that is encouraging. See for yourself:

Re: Looks like the POE2 devs will address the Mobile AA abuse issue...
It's good that they are trying to fix it, but BF2 still has the same problem with people using the AA vehicles for anti infantry, and they work sometimes better than a regular tank or APC. They should try obstructing the view like in BF2.

Glad to see they're addressing it. In the wrong hands the AA can be really abused against infantry.

Re: Looks like the POE2 devs will address the Mobile AA abuse issue...
Meh. Sure it's killer against infantry, but it's easily and instantly countered with any armor (Tank, APC). Or two AT rounds.
I'd like to see the Shiilka's anti-inf capabilities more in line with the German flak gun. Anything beyond that will take much of the fun out of the kit. If it harms the Shiilka's AA capabilities though, it risks upseting the balance of air power.
And to the comments that the AA gun is better against infantry than APC's or tanks? Well, it's supposed to be that way. The tanks and APC's are effective against both soft and hard targets. Flak AA is super effective against soft targets and almost harmless against hard targets. There's really no point arguing all of this - we'll just have to wait and see what comes with the patch - but I want to toss my $.02 into the circle.
Did you know that the Russkies found the anti-infantry capabilities of the Shiilka so devestating that they created a variant which is unable to engage air targets, making it's use excusively anti-infantry? It was used most recently in Chechnya.A policy of freedom for the individual is the only truly progressive policy. -F.A. Hayek

What's intriguing is that you spelled intriguing correctly. Yay!! We're learning ya.

Re: Looks like the POE2 devs will address the Mobile AA abuse issue...
I recently read a post that stated something like
"If you dont want to keep dying at a certain flag because it is under heavy attack then dont spawn there"
I agree with this completely..if i am dying and its not in the UCB then i have nothing to complain about other than me and my teammates playing ability.
Not only do i use AAA tanks for anti-infantry but i have had them used on me.
I never thought to complain about it...then again i never thought to complain about artillery or tank shells either....its just another hazard of the battlefield.
I would think that the slow moving and very light armored vehicle would be pretty easy to counter ....it always seems that way when i drive it i die pretty quick when attacking a flag due to AT and air forces.

Yeah, learning to use Microsoft Word spell check more frequently . Lol. Cut and paste baby!
When players are spawning in, they do not get a choose on were they appear. If you could spawn behind cover and be safe I would not have a problem with the AA as is. However, if you spawn in right were the AA is strifing then your done for.
I believe the issue is more player issue than actual mechanics of the game.
Sadly, without restraint many people will complain. PoE2 devolopers know this is a game for people to enjoy, so they feel something needs to be done. More power to them.
Furthermore, sometimes your team will not have good air support. When this happens your done for.
The constant struggle between real world physics and entertaining gameplay makes this a good debate.
If more players played the AA like xTYBALTx (uses restraint) I am sure there would be little comments about this on the forum.Last edited by Rick_the_new_guy; 09-17-2006 at 05:09 PM.

Re: Looks like the POE2 devs will address the Mobile AA abuse issue...
In the changelog they specifically said splash is reduced against infantry. I think this will be helpful as it will reduce spamming to find hiding infantry and killing without ever actually seeing the infantry. What I worry about is they might end up going the BH mini gun route and reducing splash so much it becomes a useless weapon.(If u notice the BH guns do great amounts of damage, just at a pinpoint)
As Tybalt said, AA is always going to be very effective against infantry. More so than a tank. However, a tank lasts longer against well equipped infantry and is also great against other armor including AA.

Two shots takes down mobile AA. I think that's a pretty good balance for it's effectiveness against soft targets. Now I do disagree with the blast radius going through objects. If they could just fix that it would be fine.

I've only had a handful of times I spawned/respawned into instAAA-death. And yes, dieing behind hard targets from AAA should be examined.

What does the third A in AAA stand for? Just curious.
