Re: Reminder -- Helo squads..
The main problem is the chatter. In the attack chopper a lot of communication is required in order to point out targets/vectors etc. Combine this with the bomber and the jet and you have a mess.

Re: Reminder -- Helo squads..
actually some maps have enough air vehicles that an "air" squad wouldn't even fit everyone.
I think they are better off separated

Re: Reminder -- Helo squads..
Well this is kinda bs -- someone wants to try their hand at the chopper and they're forced to play by your terms and wait until the round ends before they get a chance? And you get to be boss of the heli solely because your had the faster computer and created the chopper squad before anyone else could?

Re: Reminder -- Helo squads..
Selective quoting doesn't really help things. PanzerHans said that the new members didn't have microphones and were unresponsive. Now, under server rules, he would be fully justified in contacting an admin, which would eventually see these people kicked.
Let's try a different tack. Given a 6-man helo squad, half of them not responding to commands, with you as squad leader and only two helo seats available: what would you have done?<insert signature spam here>

Re: Reminder -- Helo squads..
Well, this is a difficult situation. Some order needs to be enforced, else there could be 20 guys all wanting to fly choppers sitting on the runway waiting for a spawn and then a race to the equipment.
There is no perfect system, but at least with dedicated squads, we can cut down on some of the chaos.

Re: Reminder -- Helo squads..
Last night i was banned because of this issue.
After joining the Jet Squad on start up,i grabbed the frogfoot. While flying im told there is only space for 2 guys on the squad. After 1 min or 2 , i am team killed by one of the guys that was leading me in the squad. Saying he was the one entitled to fly. Now i did teamkilled him in return as i dont play BF2 to argue with people.
The way i see it, if the first pilots are good they will last long enough to avoid creating plane campers, if they are not so good, more people will have a chance to fly. You dont have to lock the squad for jets , it will naturally regulate itself in a good way most of the time.

Re: Reminder -- Helo squads..
I think your being a bit too flowers and sunshine here. Yes, sometimes it is going to be a first come first serve deal. The reality of the situation is there aren't always going to be enough air assets on the map for everyone to get in the rotation efficiently. Sometimes I'll spawn at an air field and see choppers and planes just sitting around, un-used. Othertimes you have a gaggle of players just lounging around waiting.
The best thing for the team is to have every seat manned, and all air assets up 100% of the time.
If the chopper squad is full and they have a good rhythm going, I wish people wouldn't join and force a rotation. If you really want to fly, there usually isn't a problem waiting until the next big air map. The only times it becomes a problem are when the same people fly every single time there is a chopper in a map. I generally will fly for a round, then switch to a ground pounder next. Almost all TG players do this. There are a few regulars (slingblade) who seem to always have to fly no matter what and won't be in an infantry squad if an air asset is available. This is the only type of behavior I've seen that causes a problem.

Noone on our server should be TKing at all. Report anyone who does so.

Re: Reminder -- Helo squads..
Since you thought my way of doing it was bad, why don't you come up with a pratical solution to this problem. How will you be able to manage your 6 man choppersquad running all over the map while taking your turn flying the chopper? I will tell you from experience, your squad will fill up with people who are not interested in flying in additions to those who are interested.
Please try a bit more constructive posting the next time you respond to a post.
PS! And I did not kick them from the server, only from the squad(in case anybody wondered)--

Re: Reminder -- Helo squads..
No, you were banned because you were teamkilling intentionally. I was the squad leader who reported you to the admins.
You TK'ed one of the squad members, not the SL. I didn't witness him killing you first. If that really happened, the right thing to do would have been to bring it to my attention, so I could relay it to the admins. After joining the Jet Squad on start up,i grabbed the frogfoot. As you can read in the server message screen, teamplay and maturity are required. You displayed neither, and that led to you being banned from the server.<insert signature spam here>

Re: Reminder -- Helo squads..
I've been on TG servers for 9 months now and I believe locked chopper squads is the best possible solution
- you dont have 20% of you fighting force waiting around on the tarmac and not contributing to the fight
- pilot and gunner can get into the swing of working together
- locking squad stops excess people, not needed for the heli functioning, what are they going to do ?
Joebar does have one good point though, what if you want to fly but your computer loads slower than every body else,
you load and the air squads are already up, full of required numbers and locked. The only solution i can think of is to
communicate via text/TS? near the end of one round, so you can get intoa heli squad before the next map starts loading. Not ideal I know.
however even with this negative, I still think locked helis squads is the best way of doing things.
finaly , I just want to compare our way of doing things with the deranged mess on pubbies,
have you ever lost a pubbie map because half your team is waiting for planes on the aircraft carrier and Tking eachother for them !
EDIT
I dont seem to remember that many locked air squads on vanilla

Re: Reminder -- Helo squads..
Heh, it takes me about ten minutes to load a map, and that's if I'm lucky. I guess that solves the mystery of why I don't bother flying too much
