Re: E-Male COing Tonight (Oct 3) -- DeBriefing and Humble Pie Eating
I think the team balance is the problem though and not the particular performance of any individuals. If we get an alternative battle ranking/custom ribbon system in place we should really like it to TG profiles and their hashes and configure the auto-balance to be more player-quality based and less raw player counter-based. I for one think playing with your best friend takes a backseat to promoting better TG style games on the server. If it comes down to good squads being broken up vs. the server population rising, I'd rather good squads get broken up. I'd view that as an acceptable loss if forced to choose between one or the other. Once the populations rebound, more liberties could be allowed in picking the team of your squad.

Re: E-Male COing Tonight (Oct 3) -- DeBriefing and Humble Pie Eating
Well we can, and do, switch players to balance the skill level on the teams. I probably should have done a little of this last night. I think doing this automatically would be essentially impossible.
That's aside from the fact that ranking our players has been debated before.
I should add that I don't mind crushing victories. They are a part of the game. I just dislike the effect they have, especially when they happen repeatedly.Peace through fear... since 1947!

Re: E-Male COing Tonight (Oct 3) -- DeBriefing and Humble Pie Eating
There are some of us that are willing to (and often do) switch to the losing side after a map. If the win/loss margin is narrow, less than 100 tickets, then we stay where we are. If the margin is larger then we usually take an entire squad over to the other side.
This is done for two reasons.
1) As with anything most folks want to win and some will always leave a losing side while telling themselves that "it wasn't MY fault that we lost" or "if the damn CO/SL had let us attack/defend like we wanted we would have won". We all know that there is no single squad that will win or lose a battle for the CO. To win takes cooperation from all the members of the team.
2) Anyone who stays on the losing side for the next map is there to do better. Most of these people are pure cream of the crop with regards to effort. They stay because they think "Damn if we had just held that cp a little longer" or "On this next map we're going to make a concetrated effort to maintain control of the area and not waste our tickets".
I'll tell you one thing for sure. If you want to play with some of the hardest charging folks on the game then jump onto the losing side when the margin of loss was 200+ tickets. Those people are hard core.
I understand the reason for the auto switch but there are some of us that take that one step further and switch on our own. That and it's nice to see folks rally behind you when they find out that you're a TG regular and that you're willing to do whatever it takes to take the game to that next level.
Back to the original purpose of this thread, E-Male don't worry about one map. I know for a fact if you try a couple maps you'll probably find a few damn good SL's on the next one...... and the one after that. Keep up the effort brother we're here for ya.

Re: E-Male COing Tonight (Oct 3) -- DeBriefing and Humble Pie Eating
Although we are getting way off topic for the thread, I feel I have to add this:
Be careful when you do a major switch from one side to the other. The natural balance may have already happened. I have seen people switch sides after a slanted map, only to have it go very badly in the other direction. Take a close look at the content of the new teams before you change.
Sometimes you get a 250 point victory just because your team had 2 good pilots and the other team had none. If Orel then starts up and a few good players move to the other side, then you can imagine what happens. I appreciate that people try.
It is probably better to let the map play for a bit and then switch if needed.Peace through fear... since 1947!

Re: E-Male COing Tonight (Oct 3) -- DeBriefing and Humble Pie Eating
One thing i do like is the idea of that E-Male has brought up about more communication between CO and SLs. I did this a bit on one of the maps a few nights ago.
I tried to keep E-Male appraised of our situation, calling for air support and reporting heavy contact when it didnt look good for us defenders.
This is gonna be the lynchpin in DTS cause even the CO cant zoom in everywhere at once.
Now i just have to go back and read the SOP for Sitreps again so i do it right.....................

Re: E-Male COing Tonight (Oct 3) -- DeBriefing and Humble Pie Eating
I don't want to speak for Emale. My squad snagged that north cabin early and after initially losing it regained it. The other two squads were tasked with going to the lumbermill, but were caught up eventually creating a static line just west of the river. With those squads losing momentum, Emale looked to find another opening. So he tasked us with taking the trenches. The first push went straight into the trenches, second flanking towards OOB, third testing the gap between the Crashsite and Trenches. We didn't make it far without being lit up. We did try 1 push on the crashsite, but that flag is generally well held and that's when we were redirected to send everyone to the north side. Your side had good positioning and were quick to reinforce. We couldn't get the necessary push to get into the flag area.

Re: E-Male COing Tonight (Oct 3) -- DeBriefing and Humble Pie Eating
Like I said I was just curious. Your descriptions match exactly what I saw and would have assumed. Funny thing was, my squad in the middle was actually the smallest squad as we were only 5 man squad. I was worried you were going to come back hard again because what appeared to you probably as a stout defense was actually very thin. The rest of the squad did a good job of moving and I guess it appeared as we were greater in numbers than we were. It's just interesting how close u guys were at both of the flags(trenches and crash site).
That brings up an interesting problem. Prior to the great northern push, the game was great. Even though I was on the winning side of the blowout it took alot of effort and tactics. We just happend to win the breakout to the flags at the beginning. Defense is always easier. I think if the fortunes had been reversed and the German team got the trenches and crashsite at the start, the game would have been dramatically different.

Re: E-Male COing Tonight (Oct 3) -- DeBriefing and Humble Pie Eating
Shhh... as it stands now COs are so surprised when a SL requests air or arty support they drop whatever they are doing to expedite it so as to encourage it. If the word gets out then I'll be like third in line for the bombers instead of having the air squad on my personal beck and call as a SL as it is now.
