The slow painful death of POE
I cant help but notice that each week it seems less and less people are playing POE. The TG server is the ONLY server that seems to have a decent following.
That being said i couldnt help but notice that there are TG servers for 2142.......Now I know there is a very large theme of animosity amongst POE towards 2142. However one of the things that made me really like POE was finding the TG server where people actually played together.
My question is does that same teamwork exist on the TG 2142 servers? Any of you hardcore POE players play 2142? I know i got the demo and it was......blah.......how is the real game? I am honestly fully content with the GAME POE......but its hard to keep playing when there is NO ONE playing. I dont want to corss over to the darkside......but if there exists similar teamplay as the TG POE server i might give it a shot.

Re: The slow painful death of POE
Welcome to TG Stinger. TG is also hosting another BF2 mod fulltime which has TGer spread out across three different games. That is why you are seeing the decrease in population here. The other mod is the PR or Project Reality Mod. It is hosted here also so if you want to chenck that out you have that option available to you and it is FREE!

Re: The slow painful death of POE
Well to some degree I have to agree with stinger... since the release of 2142 numbers in general do seemed to have dwindled a little. POE is a fantastic mod, and I know that the lack of urban warfare within the mod does turn some people away, there seems to be a big call for city maps these days.
I just hope that the POE DEVS can get round to releasing some city maps content sooner rather than later, I know jilted (one of the POE modellers) has made some awesome urban models for a future release, which you can view in the "interactive development forum" on the POE website if you register there.
In fact if you have a good look around there you will come across lots of content not yet included. some of it is really mouth watering, but I do think that with the inclusion of some city maps, numbers will grow again.

Re: The slow painful death of POE
People seem to be spread across the 2 different versions too, game monitor till shows a fairly steady player count when I check it, but it shows figures for all versions.
Once we get everyone on the same version it should be a little better.

Re: The slow painful death of POE
Also, the sooner the PR team make a fix for 1.41, the sooner players that play both mods can patch up
I know I'll be playing POE as long as there are servers to play on anyway

Re: The slow painful death of POE
Howdie! Just to put in 2 cents from the BF2142 crowd over here at TG:
Other than it being the shiny new gadget here at TG, a number of the 2142 TG players have recently committed themselves to being squad leaders to elevate the gameplay over your regular pub. The current commitment is to have 2-3 "Learn TG" squads on each team, with 2-3 TG regulars in each squad. So, if you do the math, that's at 8-18 (though we usually don't hit that upper limit) TG members over on the 2142 server just to make it feel like a TG server. This is all part of the early process of getting TG type players to stay on the server and hopefully make their way over to the forums.
Of note, though, is that I believe the 2142 server's TG population dropped and moved over to the PoE server for the scrim this weekend.
With TacMod and PR thrown in there, we are spreading ourselves pretty thin, but hopefully it will get better as we bring in more "like-minded" players and get them to the forums. Maybe we should try a PoE recuitment drive to get the visitors on the server to stay. Just get Santa to stop hurting people's feelings, and I'm sure they'll be more inclined to come back.

Re: The slow painful death of POE
I was one who never really got into PoE2, mostly because I was playing in the daytime/early evening when the server is overwhelmingly populated with pubbers. For some reason, PoE2 at TG seemed to draw a lot more pubbers than standard BF2. That probably has something to do with the fact that ALL PoE2 servers are unranked, whereas only a handful (including TG) are. I just found gameplay to be a little bit too all-over-the-place in PoE.
BTW, that's just my experience, not a knock on the PoE community here. I've had some great times playing with Panzer and Silver, but I've just had more bad experiences in PoE than good ones."No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country.
He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."

Re: The slow painful death of POE
I think POE will grow with some new content. I have been yelling over the lack of city maps for a while over at PBF. Some good news is that the devs are having a map contest. Hopefully the winning map (announced Dec 3) will have some urban action.
I don't like 2142 much. I bought it and played for a couple hours. I might try again after another patch and some upgrades of my machine.
I'm really hoping that the POE devs seize this opportunity to solidify their position as the most popular BF2 mod. The numbers are dwindling so it's no time to take a break.

Re: The slow painful death of POE
hi guys, the mod gets going around 5-6 pm and I find the play much better than anything out there. You will always have public players and I am one of them. That doesnt mean that Public players don't want to play as a squad and use teamwork. Anyone who has played with me will realize that I use the mini-map, send attack, move, and defend orders. Inform players of when to attack flags, set special rules for when a low number of players are available and we did this yesterday with sassy, offgreen, darkshadow, shafik etc. It was fun and this server is the only one as far as I know that creates an environment for at least some semblence of teamplay whether you like it or not. I play this game quite a bit and you would be surprised or maybe not about the number of people who have NO CLUE that this mod even exists! I have gone onto public servers and typed in Download POE and people respond "What the heck is POE?" I have recruited a few players this way to come over to Tactical gamer and one player is dark Shadow who now is a regular player and does very well.
This server is the best and I would play the Vanilla version of B2 with the rules that you have. No bunnyhopping is one of the best rules out there and the forcing of squad development is the best thing you can do considering the game limitations.
I will be on this evening due to having a few days off, players are very courteous and lots of chatter about many things. I think this is part of the gaming process since it should be fun. It's great and anyone who wants to play as a decent squad and wants to chat join my squad and I won't win all the time but I'll play as a team. Thanks Tactical Gamer for your good work

Re: The slow painful death of POE
I have not played PoE in a couple weeks as I have been involved with BF 2142. I like both games for different reasons and I'm goint to start rotating PoE back into my playtime.

Re: The slow painful death of POE
I have played 2142 and got bored with it, tried PR and lost complete interest in that so I am backed to POE and pretty much committed to it as long as there is enough of a poplution on it to make it fun. So there maybe more hope for POE than it looks like right now if other people come around to the same conclusion i have.
