Re: Pictorial preview of the custom maps coming in the map pack
The same here, and I am in Europe...23,40 is the time here now.
It ought to be released within a few hours. I do think that the development team want to release the pack in good time for the US-players to have a full friday evening/night of playing. And given the present time in the US, it should not take too long now.443.Urban Infantry Bat. / Bat. Anti-tank Platoon

Re: Pictorial preview of the custom maps coming in the map pack
Did they not think about how long it will take to download the maps (several hundered megs?), not to mention load them onto servers?
I'm thinking we'll not be playing these maps tonight, but tomorrow night!

It would seem that is the case. Too bad, really.

Bummer... Tomorrow is the scrim, so no new maps tomorrow night either. Guess I may have to get my fill of some new maps by digging out the old Special Forces disks tonight.

Yeah, in a way a little later is better for me because the kids and wife will be in bed.
Not too late though, sometime in the next hour or hour and a half would be good.

Re: Pictorial preview of the custom maps coming in the map pack
I just made my own private server to look around the maps and 'wow' is all I can say. I think my favorite before actually playing them would have to be operation acorn. The Forest Hill flag looks like the funnest flag to fight over in any BF2 map ive seen. Strategically it looks like the most important since the roads surrounding it are easy to cut off. Having the flag lets you into more territory easier. Also, its a huge hill with great places to setup a cool looking defense. I was practically drooling when i was looking at that flag.

Haha....I was thinking the same thing. Yeah the Forest Hill looks like it could be another Crash Site. Very tough to defend since you can barely see anything around you.

Re: Pictorial preview of the custom maps coming in the map pack
Went around with Sordavie in a local server capping the flags and checking out the spawning assets. Overall my initial impressions would be:
- Red Dawn: Too much armor.:/ Not to mention an attack chopper. Every flag has at least one major asset. Think Zhytomyr level of armor but add in at least two AA vehicles and an attack chopper. If you were expecting an infantry focused city map start lowering your excitement or you will be very dissapointed. The map is pretty big though and some of the flags look pretty fun. We'll see how it plays out...it will be an official map eventually so we better get used to it and get our opinions out there in the possibility that it could change a bit before becoming an official map. Finally...has a nice bug at the trashdump where you'll try to drive toward the flag in an apc/tank...part of your vehicle will catch the overhang and as you keep moving you'll blow up. Be very careful at that area.
- Woodland: Would be perfect if two of the flags were deleted by making them UCB's. I think the environment and being infantry only will go over very well but some flag hopping will negate a bit of the fun.
- Operation Acorn: I like this one on first glance. Still a bit rough with lightmap issues in a lot of places but overall the map looks decent and the layout has a lot of varying flag styles. I think I read the Quarry will have a high value in bleed so keep that in mind. Quarry + one other flag probably will = bleed even though your only holding 2 out of the 4 flags. Battles should be constant at that one. Forest Hill will definitely be a crazy flag to defend and attack. Capping that flag doesn't look too enjoyable lol.
- Berezne: I still really like this one. It won't really wow you with a new setting or interesting gameplay idea but its very polished and has lots of room for tactics. The only armor spawns at the UCB. Two thumbs way up.
- Stormfront: Hmmmm. I can tell this was rushed with the maps upon load not showing the control points and flag names not set correctly. Visually its really odd at first but I think it will grow on ya. Layout wise I think its not bad but the flags are pretty close together and I'm not a fan of the bowl feel around the lake. This combination can lead to being shot at from other flags while your capping different flags. Its completely infantry only which is good. I can definitely say that you'll see a lot of action here...probably will feel more deathmatchy though since its rarely going to be just squad against squad and more "they are everywhere" feeling. Half of the fire could be from snipers. :/|TG-12th|mantis

Re: Pictorial preview of the custom maps coming in the map pack
I have only had time to check out Red Dawn this morning, and I dont know if it is just my settings, but it appeared as a rather dark map making it difficult to see things [could be the server settings though]. However, as said so is it quite some armour on the map but I did also notice that it is not so easy to move around in the armour. Since there is a lot of back-alleys and plenty of very good spots for AT-ambushes, so would I like to hope that the presence of armour wont have to much impact on the map. I would not really be surprised if infantry will reign supreme on this map. For infantry CQB, I find it to have great potential and it is a map that require tactics.
One problem I did notice though was the curbs (sp?) that is all over the place which quite effectively make movement a bit tricky for both vehicles and infantry. I found myself several times having to jump in order to get over a curb, and I hope that it wont be a source for players accusing others of bunny-hopping etc.443.Urban Infantry Bat. / Bat. The AA will tear up infantry on Red Dawn.

If the AA is able to spot the infantry. If not, AT-infantry will have a field-day against all vehicles.
