Re: Feedback on the new maps
I've heard of a few people (I think it was Pirate_Pope) getting a corrupt download.
Did you have a copy of the map before it was released to the public? I deleted the old Berezne folder before installing the map pack.

Re: Feedback on the new maps
Well, I've got to say I'm very pleased, more with the effort, involvement and output of the POE2 devs and community than anything else. The maps range from outstanding to well-intentioned and missing the mark, but all show a lot of talent and innovative design. I rank the maps similarly for similar reasons:
1. Woodland so far has been a top-notch experience regardless of team, flag or whether defending or attacking and thus is my favorite. Every flag is fun to defend and has a unique design with associated challenges.
2. Berezne is a close second, with the scales tipping a bit in favor of the UKR for the same old reasons, but not nearly as much an issue as with the older maps.
3. Red Dawn has great potential, haven't played enough to figure out what is missing, but suffice to say the first three minutes seem crucial for troop distribution and armor movement. This is the new Berlin for Battlefield.
7. Stormfront. What to say. Map boundaries can be a good thing, flag-to-flag line of sight seems to suck, odd cover distribution makes movement on foot nearly futile, rediculous Island of Lead-Riddled Death flag is where you want to lure your opponent.
Obvious problems lead to two "tactics": Snipe like a Clawhammer wannabe
or run and gun like a pub-hopping l337-freak. Mostly it seems to wind up spending the last 200 tickets with squads hunkering in the same spots getting sniped or trying to make a crazy rush through a hail of lead. Woohoo.
It will take a lot to fix it I think. Let's give THAT one 150 tickets and see how it plays! If it's going to be minute madness, why not just go for it and laugh our asses off?
One thing this really makes me curious about are some of the other maps that were submitted. I'm starting to see a pattern of what makes a really good map, and feel there has to be others worthy of rotation.
I know it was a lot of work for the devs and a BIG shout out to you guys for making it happen. Whenever you are ready to put a few more maps into a pack, we at TG will be ready to put them through the paces and dissect their shortcomings, strengths, etcetera, ad hoc, ad nauseum.

Re: Feedback on the new maps
Totally agree with Axis. Woodland and Berezne are the best of the bunch. Red Dawn is a touch too crowded where you have to hop over the curbs. I had to apoligize to Bleak the other night as I tried to lay mines near his enemy tank and had to hop over the stinkin curb to get to his tank while under fire. Armor while it should be useful is really restricted where going off road ends up with constant damage to the armor piece.
Operation Acorn stresses my computer at the large hill and the bleed is determined by who holds 1 flag. Why is that flag worth so much more, doesn't the worth of having a transport chopper (The German one with Missles) make that flag worth having? This map needs some adjustment although if they put 3 flags within the quarry area itself, I think that would make it worthwhile.
Stormfront has great music, but the inability to move and the lunacy of attempting to hold that middle island. Find a way to decrease the draw distance (Fog) and it would improve. I have to admit though, my greatest laugh came off this map as Emale was teamswitched. We later saw him driving a jeep around to find a flag to attack in a jeep. The best part was that he took the jeep out of the hands of the insane suicide driver and prudently drove around at about half speed, honking his horn and slowing down when the enemy stepped in front of him. I could almost picture him chowing down on his Tim Horton's donut as he looked for that empty flag to take.

I thought he destroyed his disc. Emale I mean.

Re: Feedback on the new maps
Red Dawn: A combination of the street curbs being too high and BF2's engine inadequacies make this map extremely irritating. It has potential, but I couldn't get through the first 5-10 minutes before I had had my fill. Wasting sprint meter jumping over a 6" curb while under fire is just not necessary. Not jumping over the curb and being forced to run down wide open streets is even worse, especially with a dozen guys in the crane.
/me annoyed.
So far, this is my only real gripe with the new maps. Those that I have played on were a lot of fun, even the ones with guys laying mines on the only bridge out of the UCB.

Re: Feedback on the new maps
Stormfront: Please remove the sniper kit entirely
That's my only gripe with the new maps. We were playing it earlier around 7pm and I swear, half of the German team were snipers. We were trying to defend Islands and the entire squad directly north of us were snipers plus you had a couple south of us in the hills/woods. That control point would be a blast to defend/attack if you're not constantly scanning the waterlines and horizons for that sniper you hear off in the distance.
This map is Spies Like Us with snipers. Is that something the mapper can change or does that have to be modded by the POE dev team?
Oh and I haven't gotten to play Woodland yet. Can you guys add that one twice to the rotation?|TG-12th| jmaker

Re: Feedback on the new maps
He could do any kits he wants for the maps. For those who gave us the map early we offered suggestions. We also offered more suggestions after the contest was over and gave them over a week to fix the issues if they wanted. However it was their choice to use the feedback we gave them or not and for this pack we kept a very hands off policy.
With the maps going into the build, they will both be getting lots of polish done which will be looked over by the Dev and tester teams.

Re: Feedback on the new maps
Something i noticed tonight on Red Dawn is that the bleed logic doesnt make any sense. Apparently neither team bleeds unless they are down to one flag, and i also heard a rumor that the heli CP affects bleed more. When we had vanilla running, we went as far as to mod every single map that didnt have 50% + 1 bleed because it puts more emphasis on CP control rather than simply killing.

Re: Feedback on the new maps
I have found that the Quary flag on Acorn is very heavily weighted. On top that one, the Watchtower on Woodland is weighted more in order to give bleed as is the Cabin flag on Stormfront.

Re: Feedback on the new maps
On Stormfront, the snipers don't bother me so much. I think it's fun to run around and knife them all. Oh and it's been mentioned, but the map kind of forces you to go through the Ukr UCB if you don't want ot take a boat. And the cabin flag is the only flag needed for bleed. That is kind of odd since it is easily defendable since it's in the corner.

Re: Feedback on the new maps
On Berezne
I am not so sure that more ramps are needed. Once you know where to find them, it is not as bad.
I do question why no flag at the churches. Maybe one with a small radius.
Should the cap radius be smaller (roof only) for the Radar station?

Re: Feedback on the new maps
Yeah just to reiterate, the necessary changes I've seen so far:
- Red Dawn's jumping over curbs issue
- Red Dawn's bleed issue - should be 50% +1
- Red Dawn's Helo
- Stormfront should have 2 pickup Sniper kits only
Those changes will greatly improve the chances of those maps getting played consistently here at TG.Beatnik

Re: Feedback on the new maps
Great new maps, but if changes were to be made, I would vote to not take away the sniper kit on Stormfront, but rather eliminate that map from the rotation completely. I see no value added to have it in the rotation.
Also, fix the bleed on Red Dawn in addition to the curb jumping...
Berezne is awesome...
Then again, that's just what I feel...
