Re: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)
I've confirmed all the links for POE2 on Hypernias data silos and Gamershell are working.
The link to the 1.41 patch on EA's ftp seems a little flaky though, refresh a few times and it will start downloading.

Re: UPDATED: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)
I have followed the above instructions to the letter, installing BF2, then BF2 1.4, then PoE 2.5 -- upon trying to connect to the server, I was told I was missing the map currently in rotation. I then downloaded the map pack 2.0, which Lorax found, and installed it. I was still not able to get into the TG server, being told I did not have the map. There are only one or two servers playing the maps that are in my poe2/levels folder, and none are TG.
I have tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling poe2.5, followed by the map pack, to no avail. I have also tried instructing the map pack to specifically install to the poe2/levels folder, rather than just the BF2/mods folder. None of what I believe are the new maps ("Highway to hell, Aces High, etc") are in my levels folder, after 2 installs.

I don't believe you should need a map pack at all, just the 2.5 installation. It sounds to me like something went wrong with your install. You did use the full 2.5 installation right? The 2.1 to 2.5 upgrade was 600+ Megs, the full install is much larger than that.

I used the full install, and have also completely uninstalled and then reinstalled it.

Did you install both parts of the full client? pt1 and pt2?

Re: UPDATED: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)
Sounds like you only installed the build...pt1. There should be two executables to run.

Re: UPDATED: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)
When you run POE 2.5 parts 1 and 2 they unzip pretty quick but take a while for the actual running of the installation program. Make sure you have part 1 completely installed before you go for part 2. I just did a clean installation myself last night after converting to Vista and loaded: BF2 > BF2 1.41 Full > POE2 2.5 part 1>POE2 2.5 part 2 and everything seems to run fine. See if your BF2 is updated correctly with 1.41 by launching the game before you try to install POE2. When you load POE 2 make sure to wait for the full executables to run for part 1 before you unzip part 2.

I only ran the first part, sorry, thought that you just needed to run it with the second part in the same location. Thanks for the help!

Re: How to get started with PoE2 (for free!)
wow, that's some download - good job I'm doing it at work and not at home (10Mb leased line is still going to take an hour for part 1, I'll start part 2 downloading when that 's done).
Should be on later in the week to have a look
