That's cool and I appreciate the feedback. I hope my comments were not perceived as criticism or complaining of any sort. Really, for me now, it's a non-issue as I make do in whatever squad I find myself in. I only raised it as an early concern I once had and felt that it fit the topic and might provide another point of view.

    Cheers.

The locked squad issue has been covered so many times that I virtually never see a TG-led squad locked without a fairly obvious reason. 7th squads are often locked at 6 players to allow another 7th member to join in the event someone drops out. If you see them locked at 5, it is probably because someone is about to join.

    Fixed for truth

I have stated before, but I will push the idea again... As most IHS have more than 6 members anyway, and most IHS use their own TS channel.. You really should run two squads.. Most maps have more than 5 control points, and even having 10-12 people on one flag is not too many. Having two SL in the same TS channel will give you more people to have on the same defensive front.. Imagine 12 people all defending the sawmill, in a huge circle, the enemy would be spotted and taken care of before they got 100 meters from the flag.

Even on a map like woodlands with 8 CPs, two squads can keep two flags and still be able to back each other up. Instead of working as a squad , we need to start working as a team.. instead of trying to take an entire map, we only need half of it(east or west, N or S). We all know it is easier to play as a team/squad member, than to play alone.

Indeed. Having played with guys like Luckyshot recently, I've seen this method employed on a few occasions and it makes perfect sense. I was referring more toward the 2 and 3-man locked squads that are seen occasionally, but not often. I can see where a squad that was previously locked for reasons stated above might stay locked as people drop out of that game and new SLs don't realize what was done. But still, when joining a game as a newcomer to TG, one's first impression might be that this is somewhat "elitist", if you'll excuse the expression.

There are valid reasons for locking a squad. Chopper and sniper squads are limited to 3 people, disbanding a squad, waiting for a particular person to join.... I dont remember a time (since I have been here) that locked squads have been an issue. I have not felt any elitism unless you count being teabaged.

As I said somewhere earlier.... comms between squads has a huge impact on everything. If Dice would have included a SL to SL channel with the 2 that are there, it would have helped make BF2 more tactical.

Perhaps the goal should be to have as many Teamwork and/or Learn TG squads as we possibly can, each one having a TG regular SL. You could have Learn TG S1, Learn TG S2, Teamwork1, Teamwork 2.... and so on. Perhaps we encourage new players in the Learn TG squads, and intermediate players in the the Teamwork squads.

    Perhaps too much to manage?
When I join I look for a TG led Squad. If there are no spots available in a TG led Squad I usually start a "TG Style" squad. Similar to a learn TG squad I guess.

Most times I'm oblivious to who's on what side, unless my side loses like 3 times in a row...only then do I check it out as winning is less important to me than solid squad play.

With the TG Style squad I generally get 1-2 other TG'ers and the rest are random. Most of the time people are following orders and I can only remember kicking from the squad maybe once or twice total.

I was playing on a 1st MIP squad the other night and we dominated first on one map then on another. We switched to the other side when the third map came and the game was much closer...it does work.

I'll point out, again, for the record that I only somewhat felt this way when I was still new to the TG server and its culture. I certainly don't feel this is the case now as the reasons for it are self-evident to me now. I merely tried to represent what might be one (certainly not all) newcomer's perspective with my earlier comments, which I hope has been a positive contribution to the discussion.

Re: TG Squads and Team Balance

I'm one of the ones who often joins a TG-led squad, mostly because I play so much better as a member than a leader.

This also means I'm in a squad with 3-5 other TG guys. We need more people willing to SL and start a new squad.

I'm willing but often not too able--by the time I get on to play I've had a long day and I'm at my mental ebb.

It's not uncommon to have several people leave my squad unless I'm having a good night, and the lack of continuity and stress makes the game unenjoyable for me.

Despite all this, I am commiting here and now to SL more often and will start a thread to challenge others to join me in that commitment.

We need this to stay Icy-Fresh.

Re: TG Squads and Team Balance

I think it has all been said previously in this thread, but I'll add my 2 cents just for the bump to keep the thread active.

I was not even that impressed with the POE2 mod when I first tried it, but the folks who told me to try it said TG was the place to play. The maps seemed to big, I couldn't get used to the weapons, and I was about to write it off. But the next couple nights I managed to get into a couple TG heavy squads, and I was immediately sold! I don't play at TG because it's one of the few POE2 servers, I play POE2 because I am so impressed with the gameplay on your server.

Having said that, I've gone several games and even a couple nights in a row, where I just couldn't get into a decent squad to save my life. When it gets really bad I'll run a squad myself but frankly, I'm not a steller squad leader. But I am always ready to get right back on, cause when I Do get in a good squad, I have WAY more fun, even when I'm getting my ass handed to me.

So I encourage you TG vets to keep spreading out, and leading squads, and teaching us newbies how the game is played TG style. First impressions only come around once, and though it's not for everybody, for guys like me, one night in a great squad and I was ready to become a supporting member.

    Ferguson,

I couldn't agree more with your comments. I played tonight on another server and got so bored due to the lack of teamwork that I just quit. I am also new at squad leading, and not that good, but want to encourage you to continue starting new squads when you can't find one that is actively working together. Teamwork really does make such a difference, and at least when we lead squads it will give people a better experience then what they find on that map (when other squads are not really even acting like squads) and hopefully cause them to want to play the next night. Keep up the good work!

If I ever see either one of you leading a squad, I will join up to help you out!

You can only get better... don't be afraid to ask for advice when SL'ing.

Thanks for joining the TG family Nerd! Nice to see that supporting member tag under your name with only 3 posts under your belt.

I'm sure we'll see you around more often.

I believe there are plenty of people who would agree with Nerd and Knights...there's been evenings where I've been on the server and perhaps because lack of TG members, and subsequently good SL's, it's just haven’t been that fun. Believe me, I've tried SL myself, and I STINK…hehehe. At any rate, I think a lot of non-TG's do appreciate you guys for trying to improve game play for everyone.

Hope to see you all out there.
