Thoughts on Red Dawn
This is one of the maps from the new map pack and I am hoping that we can generate some thoughts on tactics and ideas for this map. I partnered with Magrioteli this morning to grab some screenshots and get some armor counts. This map features a UCB for the Ukraine side and is a no bleed map. The Germans start from a paradrop spawn. So what should the Germans go after to have the best shot at winning?
The City Border is the Ukraine UCB.

Re: Thoughts on Red Dawn
In the games I've played, Germans have won most, if not all, the times they took and held helipad. Even with AA assets, air power is still overwhelming in the hands of a decent pilot.

Re: Thoughts on Red Dawn
I feel the map is balanced towards the Ukraine side due to the UCB and that all of their guys survive the initial spawn. Saying that, whoever holds the Helipad is the side that generally wins. So is that the only flag worth holding?

Re: Thoughts on Red Dawn
I dont know what happened last night. I was German and watched the Uke's trash us. On a 250 point map, they had to suicide out to end the map. It was still more than 200 when they did this.
Make the German UCB a paradrop from further back and higher with no cappable base below.
Blow 1 or 2 more holes in the Helo fence to make it harder to hold.
Curbs .... not gonna say any more than that.

Re: Thoughts on Red Dawn
Ill add to Gmans suggestions.
More cover in the streets near destroyed building
Make the buildings at construction yard fully enterable
More cover between garbage dump and helipad

Re: Thoughts on Red Dawn
I think the Construction site is important. I believe the the AA can deal with the helo if it is supported by the APC and and an engineer. A possible tactic would be to take two squads to the Construction site and then have one squad work the AA, APC and engi West to the SW corner of the map and then begin moving North towards the Helipad (take the Destroyed Building along the way). I have found the helo is not to hard to destroy if the AA can get it lined up for a few seconds. The keys to success would be to keep the helo spotted and the AA repaired along the way. I'd say that the Helopad could be taken using the strategy
A good idea might be to get a SL inside the building at the Construction site, but make sure the squad mates know how to get out! LOL

Re: Thoughts on Red Dawn
I was going to say what most other people said, the helipad.

Re: Thoughts on Red Dawn
- balance the bleed
- add AA pickup kits at ALL flags
- make it easier to bring the AA within range of the chopper pad, perhaps with a northern roadPeace through fear... since 1947!

Re: Thoughts on Red Dawn
What icky said seems like the best. As of now, there are no tactics except for rush for the helipad. I dont care if you have all the AA assets, its not enough to overcome a half-decent pilot. Also, a decent pilot can help the team easily take the AA CPs leaving one side with no viable way to kill the chopper. Its just a flawed map as is.

Are we discussing tactics or map issues that we see as problem areas?

Re: Thoughts on Red Dawn
My general impression is that the first flag the Germans should go for is the one at the construction site. It is reasonable easy to reach from the drop-site, and the railtracks offer cover. Once it is captured, it is easy to defend both from the direct vincinity of the flag (the houses etc). If one also take into account that the railtracks offer a splendid overview and firingposition over the entire flag-area, adding further to the ability to defend the entire area.
Holding the construction-site also provide the German team with a good foothold in the city, and several routes to take when attacking. Since I find the construction-side somewhat difficult to attack from other directions than the one I propose, so will that result in that flag being easy to defend and it will the German team good possibilities to get organized prior to any attack further into the city.
I started some weeks ago with taking SS from Red Damn and are in the process of puttning together a little something about tactics and the use of combined arms on Red Dawn. I will see if I can not complete that relatively soon.443.Urban Infantry Bat. / Bat. Anti-tank Platoon
