It's pretty cool actually - If you got to some of those places in Google Earth, you can clearly see the inspiration for the maps... especially "Zitomir"...

That just goes to show the quality of the POE guys. They seem to have taken the time to research and put forth a quality product. EA should take a page from their book.

Indeed, Karkland, looks nothing like it's real life counterpart.

Re: overhead map of actual map locations
Well some maps are closer than others. We tried to at least make it plausible for the map. However I think with the coming urban maps it will be a bit more of a break because of all the custom statics that would be needed, though some might retain the same basic street layout.

Re: overhead map of actual map locations
google maps is pretty cool... was bored, so I went searching... found a few potential "inspirations"...
Zhytomyr (zoom out a little to see 'downtown' Zitomir up to the north east)
Rivne (same deal - the city of Rivne is just north of the island in the river)
Lutsk (see the castle?)
Orel (which is actually in Russia)
Dniester River Valley (just a guess - it's a long river... but this has a bridge, an 'island', and a 'statue' looking thing on the South bank.)
