AT kit question
I love playing AT, and consider it very important for my team/squad in a armor map to help protect flags and even keep my squad from getting mowed down by a tank, APC, etc... but one thing bugs me. It seems like you get a kill assist everywhere but when you attack armor. You may AT armor twice, or three times, get killed, and the next guy that AT's it once gets the credit for it and you do not get a kill assist. Not that points are that important, and dying to protect the flag or your squad against armor can make a big difference for your team, but not getting kill assist credit on armor can hold your score down a little. Has this annoyed anyone else and is there anything that could ever be done about it? Just wondering...

Re: AT kit question
I think you end up getting every other kill and it averages out. The best advice I can give you is be smart about your mines. If you put the mines up road in an obvious spot, then you just shoot the armor in the tail after they pass you. Bane is an AT guy who racks up kills left and right, it can be done.

Hokey smokes - I never thought of using mines as a distraction. Good tactic.

Re: AT kit question
Placing on an obvious spot to get behind them is great.
Also try placing mines just over a hill or bump so they are hard to see.
Place in grassy spots or other hidden areas, especially on well traveled areas.
Without UAV and such, you can hide and wait. I like to wait behind a giant rock or something like that on a path to a flag where Armor is likly to travel. Then when it comes by, just pop it in the butt.
The main thing to remember is to hold your shot for the best possible spot unless you are spotted and about to die. I see far too many people just trying to fire off a shot at the tanks the first second they see them instead of flanking to do the most damage.
We really wanted to try and get both inf guys and tankers using tactics to fight each other instead of just a slug fest and firing off a shot at first sight.

Re: AT kit question
I'm usually one of the guys popping a near useless AT rocket into the front of the tank because it seems like I ALWAYS get spotted before I can line up a better shot...lol.
As far as the assists. I think you have to take the tank below half of its "health" bar to get an assist. If you drop two rockets into the front you may still be short of halfway, but far enough for a good shot in the back to finish him off, giving the other guy a kill with no credit for the assist.
I'm not even sure you might not have to take him halfway in one shot? I know I like AT as well, but my score is always in the toilet if I play it the whole round.

Re: AT kit question
IIRC it takes 5 shots to kill a tank from the front, so 3 shots to reduce a tank to < 50% and get the assist.
It's often a good tactic if you have more than 1 AT hitting a tank to have one of the ATs try to get the tank's attention (maybe shooting the front if it's facing that way) so the other can hit the rear.

Re: AT kit question
I almost forgot about this thread on the PoE site. I don't know how outdated it is, but the vehicle maps are consistent in concept so it should give you the basic idea of where you should be aiming.

Re: AT kit question
Thanks for the link Nerd Ferguson. That tank diagram is very helpful. I'm like you...often I get spotted on the front side of a tank and am out of luck trying to sneak around to hit it from the back, esp. if enemy infantry is advancing with it. At that point I feel good if I can get off 2 shots to the front. The other thing about AT is the machine gun seems to be so inaccurate when you have to shoot at a distance. Van. BF2 has a cool upgrade for this gun that is a scope with a red laser dot which is so much easier to use, but other than this gun upgrade and a few of the maps (Karkand, Jalabad) - I despise the Arty loving, drop & roll & shoot someone in the head (at a distance) while being hammered by mulitiple shots Van. BF2!!!

Re: AT kit question
To get them on bridges, place them far enough apart for a tank to think he can sneak between them. 9/10 he wont. Friendlies do the same thing unfortuantly.

Re: AT kit question
Yep...listen to greasy. Its all about ambush tactics in how you use the AT kit. Maps like Rolling Thunder...don't fire away long range where they can see the AT trail and immediately home in with a heap shell. Instead let them come into the village environments where you have cover and can position to hit them in the weak points without them knowing where you are.
