    Berezne Update ?'s

    I'm working on an updated version of Berezne and was wanting to get some opinions on some changes I'm thinking of making.

    1. I'm thinking of extending the fog draw distance by 20m or so and am wondering if I should make the snipers pick-up kit only. Or should I just keep the fog and sniper kits the way they are?

    2. I'm wanting to add mobile arty to the map (mostly for the sound and overall war-like feel it gives to the battlefield), but I dont want it to be an uber pwning platform... Should I...

    a. Make it so the arty is located way in the back in a "corral" that it cannot drive out of so that all the flags are ~600m - 900m away...making it more difficult to make accurate shots. If done this way I would make it where the respawn time on the arty is the normal 30 seconds or so.

    b. Allow the arty to roam as usual, but increase the respawn time to a much longer interval, maybe 5 minutes or longer, to make it unwise to bring it to the front.

    c. Leave it out entirely...mobile arty is not a good idea on this map.


    3. I've noticed that some people are not too fond of the 16 player flag layout with only 3 capturable flags. Should I leave it the same or use the following layout.



    Please post any alternate layouts or ideas.


    Here is a log of some of the more important changes that I've already made.

    64 player:

    --added arty smoke for commander...

    --moved barriers at rear exits of main bases to allow an extra escape route in case camping occures.

    --Added an extra boat per side near the main bases.

    --added a ladder to the side of each large river bridge.

    32 player: nothing important enough to mention...should I add CO smoke on this size too?

    16 player: nothing yet...flag layout pending.

    Global:

    --Added a couple more paths to the bluff line...one just east of the Farm flag...and one between the Lumbermill and the Watermill.

    There are lots of other minor tweaks and general polishing not worth mentioning.

    If you guys have any other ideas or suggestions please post them or PM them to me.

    I also want to thank you guys for giving custom maps a chance and allowing them to be a regular part of your map rotation...Its good feeling knowing that people are enjoying themselves on a map I made.

    I dont agree with artillery in this map. Its a good sized map, but its still too small for artillery fire. However, smoke arty sounds great.

    The 16 player size would be great with your suggestion there.

    As for snipers, right now its okay. If you did anything to them, you could take out the regular sniper kit and keep only the slower firing AM rifle for both sides. Or have the faster firing AM rifle for both sides--so long as its even.

    By the way, your map is easily the best in the map pack (and in my opinion the best in the whole mod) which is a popular sentiment here. Great job on it.

    Are you going to be able to update this with support from the poe devs? By that I mean an official map pack version 2 or updated for everyone through the next patch.

    1. Snipers do seem a bit too numerous. If you could maybe just spawn one pickup sniper kit(just regular - not anti material) at every flag that would be a move for the best.

    2. Arty?...I don't think it would be a good fit. Instead I'd take note of this post in the poe dev showcase area. They would work better if you can get your hands on them.

    3. I like your new 16 player layout.

    If you're going to update this map, you might want to look into the stuttering issues. I know that I and many other players experience much more stuttering/hardware-based lag on this map than others, though I don't know what causes it. Perhaps there's something about this map that's more resource intensive than others? I don't have much technical knowledge about this sort of thing, but it definitely hampers my experience on an otherwise high quality map.

    I would go Morter instead of arty. Much better fit IMO.

    16 player looks good.

    - Like your new 16 player map
    - Mobile arty doesn't fit in my opinion
    - I can live with Mortars
    - I can live with Smoke Arty
    - Snipers can ruin a team, not because they are that good, but for whatever reason most snipers can't actually kill anyone. As soon as you go sniper, playing as a team no longer seems to matter.
    - Consider adding a Nuke Mode.

    Overall, I enjoy the map.

    Looks great! I don't like 3 flags on a 16p map - invariably there's just a lot of flag hopping. What about making it just a fight for statue, leaving farm and radar uncappable? Or perhaps keep the N and S flags you have there and ditch statue - making it a 2 flag map?


    Other than that - not much to say! It's a great map!

    I'm just going to second what everyone has said so far. I love this map.

    - I think snipers kits should be left as they are
    - I don't see a reason to change fog
    - try to fix that resource issue so people stop whining about the "lag"
    - no mobile arty
    - yes smoke arty

    - I don't like the fights for statue in 16p, the layout just seems to make it a monster fragfest, I would go for your suggestion but without the statue flag
    - I would prefer it if people couldn't drive straight up (or down) the left side of the 64p map. Going on foot or by boat is fine.

    I definately vote for 3 flags, mostly because even on some of the 16 size maps we can have 25+ people on them which seems to me to be too many...just a bloodbath (which is probably pretty popular on this server). Also, smoke would be great on this map, but not mobile arty.

    I said "drive". I know you guys like doing it, but I don't like the fact that the rearmost flag is under attack within 30 seconds of the round starting. If you want to take and secure the opposing bridge flag, you'll just need to work a little harder and/or take a slightly higher risk.

    He did say that he was adding boats near the bases.

    Not like you can't attack the rear base in the same timeframe by driving west of the Field...or just use a boat. The strategy to go for those flags won't change any.

    Nope, it will just increase in risk and be more obvious, and I think that will be better for the game.

    Thanks for the feedback. How the next version will be released is still up to the Devs, but I think I can get it into testing. So as soon as I get it ready. You guys that are testers should get to see if the changes I make work well or not.

    If your map gets into a testing slot, I will be happy to put it into rotation, but that depends on some factors beyond my control.
    I have not played this map, but I will make it a point to grab it tonight and see what it is all about.
    Also, I am still looking for new testers that are dedicated like FBmantis and Lucky Shot, so if anyone is interrested let me know.
