Punished Teamkills
...and other general stupidity.
In your SOP's it dictates that punishing for accidental teamkills is not permitted or at the very least not encourage.
Yet time and time again people mash their fingers on the page down button it's not even funny.
Mostly this happens when mining an area, the mines are staggered, a clear path always exists for friendly units when I mine, even if it is an enclosed area.
Yet there's always someone who hops in a jeep and goes for a Sunday drive smacking straight into one of them, they punish, then guess what? they do it again!
I play this server almost daily representing the poe development, I enjoy my time here and often play for several hours at a stretch but when you are confronted by idiocy like this it makes me want to disconnect. No matter what achievements we make in POE2, you still can't patch stupidity.
I don't want to tell the game server administrators how to do their jobs, but please be vigilant for those deliberately punishing for non-intentional teamkills or spitefully causing another player grief by repeatedly running into friendly mines with full knowledge that they will die.

If you'd read the SOPs, you'd know that you should probably PM an admin with the names of people who deliberately disobey SOPs.
The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt. ~ Bertrand Russell

Re: Punished Teamkills
I have had it happen too. Had some guy bail out of my hind (Geez that sounds wrong) and died from hitting my helo. I got the TK followed by a nice PTK... but I was too busy having a good time to PM an admin at the time and trying to fly. But the time I died, I could not recognize the name on my team list so I let it go.
It is really really rare something like this happens. 99.99999% of the time the guys and gals playing at TG are awesome.

Re: Punished Teamkills
Heh... whenever that happens, I'm WAY more PO'd that some stooge just ruined the mine field that I just took time to carefully deploy... especially if there's no support guy around so you can rearm and fix it :/

Re: Punished Teamkills
I can tell you from my personal viewpoint that I do watch for people who punish teamkills for no reason. In particular, if I see something in text chat which says "hey, don't punish when you run over my mines", I will find out who it is and I will warn/kick them.
BTW, if you want to disable the option to punish for mine kills in PoE, we won't be upset.

Re: Punished Teamkills
What about that message that shows who is punishing and forgiving? I rarely see that activated on the server. I always thought that goes a long way to fix the problem since people can't be punish anonymously.

Re: Punished Teamkills
Could they be fed to the server's logs in someway without spamming the text area?

Re: Punished Teamkills
Without the punish/forgive message, that makes it a little difficult, especially if, for example, a vehicle containing multiple passengers have run over a teammate's mine. A lot of messages scroll over screen but I say that one is one of the most useful. Publicity is the best way to correct behavior rather than anonymity.

Re: Punished Teamkills
Yes, this punishing mania really makes me want to bail the game.
At our servers we run an auto text: >>>> AT-MINES AND CLAYMORE WILL KILL BOTH FOE AND FRIEND! <<<< Just because FF is on. That runs every 30 second.
At the beginning, we had "TK punish enabled" but we took it away just because players - as DP said went for their Sunday drive - and of course punished even it was that dude’s mistake. Duh! - why these friendly mines/Claymores are red sculled seemed hard to understand.
That player who had his finger glued to Page Down maybe went happy to give his teammates a bunch of negative scores. Nevertheless, it all ended up whining in the text chat (and someone eventually was banned for bad language or crappy attitude), so we un-checked that box in BF2CC.
First, we thought that we would have problems with all those whom actually team kills for fun - but we had not! Since we almost know every single soul (regulars) that play at our servers, and we are in 99 cases out of 100 always there as admins, there was no problem. Still you get a your -4 when a friend hitting your AT-mine/Claymore. However, no one has any “benefit” of it, if thought abusing it.
Team killers who does it for fun, goes out on their bare ass*** anyhow. A one-way ticket to the banning list they get.
Finally, this is not a “TG oughta do it this way” this is just how we do it and it works. So do not get me wrong.

Re: Punished Teamkills
This is logic that is almost always damaging. If you assume your system is perfect, then you can make no improvements. Public(or semi-public, I don't think most pubbies are willing to go on a forum) input will improve your community and server, in moderation. The best way to do it is to listen and evaluate what they(we) say and take it as a pool of ideas to pick from. Even if the majority of the community opposes something that you (the folks who pay for and run the server), it is still your call. This takes no power from you, but has at minimum the potential to improve you, and at most will improve you.
Back on topic, I'd say the best way system is of regular admin oversight, without the messages. It keeps the chatter down, but still keeps those unwanted TK-punishers out. That's assuming you have enough admins, which TG seems to.

Did I say it was perfect? I'm was not even assuming it is perfect.
