Autobalance - Team switching logic - How does this work?
Per the topic.
[rant] I invited a buddy of mine to play on the TG servers and for the life of us could not get but one round under our belts without team switching either swapping him or me. Ever since I started playing BF2 I’ve often wondered what logic drives the autobalance mechanism but today, more than most other days, it's gotten under my skin enough that I finally have to ask, "How does it work?" Is there anything that one can do, short of disabling it, to make introducing RL friends to TG gameplay without autobalance interfering to the point where they simply give up in frustration and leave? Don't die. As far as I know I believe that once the teams become imbalanced the next person that dies from the other team is switched to the less populated team. I don't know what the difference has to be but, I am pretty sure the next to die is the one switched. Hope that helps

Re: Autobalance - Team switching logic - How does this work?
I have never liked the system that the game uses. It just switches whoever dies.
What it SHOULD do is switch the newest person in the game or the person with the lowest score who is not on a squad. If everyone is in a squad, then it can only balance at the end of a round or when new people join.
I do not care which team I play for personally. However I HATE to be team switched after the round starts, especially if I had been fighting for flags with my squad.

Re: Autobalance - Team switching logic - How does this work?
That's just about exactly how I feel about it. I live with it normally, but until now it hasn't really caused any grief. Not being able to squad up with my buddy and show him how much more fun BF2 can be when played TG-style was most irritating.
Is it possible to mod the autobalance logic - to behave as Greasy_Mullet suggests - in the same way that SM/non-SM joiners are parsed when they join? It would make TG evangelism less stressful, I think, if it could.

Re: Autobalance - Team switching logic - How does this work?
We already have a custom auto balance logic where it allows a 2 man difference between the teams once the player count gets higher. When its lower the difference can only be one so there tends to be more switches if disconnects come in multiple numbers.
As stated though player deaths are the trigger. If you see a team stacked at the beginning of the round and don't want yourself and a friend to be broken up then plan to not die until auto balance moves some people over. Usually after the initial balancing act team switches tend to be a rarity.|TG-12th|mantis

Maybe it was just a run of bad luck then, although at the time the server population was low so that 2-man buffer probably didn't apply.
