Re: USMC attacking Berezan island
I hate to say it, but the THawks need a longer spawn if you want them distroyed. I timed it, it is faster to blow up the launcher and have it respawn that it is to reload it. Also, do not implement the launcher on anything but PW nights, pubbies will discover it, laugh, and then do it on purpose. I am one of those who stay on the carrier, but this is because I am an Irregular under the Pirate Wing, My designation under this puts me as a flight specialist.
Also, I have connected fireing patterns for mortars from the beach to the US carrier, if the US will not bring the fight to me, I will bring it to them. This brings up possibilitys, what if, if/when Ukrain gets all of the flags, mortars with limited ammo spawn along the beach, Ukrain can then force US of the ship, Then, give the US VERY short boat spawn times.
Also, as the patch goes on, the THawks are getting shot down by skilled AA, soon the insta-kill efect will be negated.
One last thing, be kind in your comments, its 5am here and I should have been in bed a while a go, my mind is wandering.
BF3 is a good game, and when they finish it, it may even be a great game.

Re: USMC attacking Berezan island
I dont like the cruise missiles, I dont really like anything that can be whored with relative immunity, can a tank round reach the carrier? Not that I'd violate the rules on TG, but I dont think they should be untouchable.

Re: USMC attacking Berezan island
I think out of all the rounds I have played on Berezan I have played as Ukraine the most and I have died to the Tomahawk ZERO times. I just don't see how it is a issue. With its slow firing rate and ability to provide no presence on the island, it only shows use when used in a squad or with a commander.
Personally I could not care if the people running the Tomahawks had 40 kills or 400 on a map. If they are just randomly flying their missles around the map looking for kills they are not helping take flags. And I think that is what the purpose of my post originally was about.
The amount of tickets that a Tomahawk can expend over a round is insignifigant to the amount that holding bleed will. If the missles were used properly they would be fired at armor leaving the UCB before they are able to put pressure on USMC held flags. Unfortunately the launchers are usually manned by people looking to get infantry kills around a flag which are easily revived.|TG-12th| Sawviper

I might not have died from the Tomahawk yet, but I sure have been saved by it on several occasions.

Re: USMC attacking Berezan island
They could be useful for taking out AAA, for example at the start of a round I was by the light house and took down plenty of choppers in that area, and on the map I saw the tomahawk nearby alot, but not once did it target me, even though I'm stationary. I guess its most useful if used tatically, and not just for randomly taking out single people.

Re: USMC attacking Berezan island
Really, the best use of the Tomahawk requires a dedicated squad of 1-2 people (depending on map size and whether you like the idea have having a spotter running about looking for targets, not used a lot), a Commander who is on the ball and coordinating the squads (read: leading the team, not just farming points), and squad leaders who not only can follow orders and use VOIP, but who can work together with other squads and the commander. Basically, this would only realistically work on a scrim or if you get lucky and have good SLs and a good CO. Anyhoo, I've tried to get 'calls for fire', and sometimes I actually get responses (through team chat, of course, we didn't have a CO) and fire up those targets when I can. It works, but it requires teamwork from all parties, and more importantly, restraint on the part of the TLAM squad to not fire when they are loaded, but wait for a target to be called out by the CO or a request in chat.
On a related note, would it be possible to add another option to the request menu for SLs? Maybe something reading "Request artillery support" or something like that? It wouldn't put down a remote camera, it would just put a marker on the map and the HUD of whoever is using the artillery, be it a TLAM system or mobile howitzer.

Re: USMC attacking Berezan island
Yesterday afternoon I decided to try the Thawk for the second time and after about 10 minutes of random killing stuff I decided to give myself some ammunition since we didnt have any commander.Dropped the job after I gave myself a box. Box finally unspawned, gave myself a second one and decided to stay commander afterall. Better to have half a commander than no commander at all. Then I discovered the true potential of the thawk. I started to spot armor and manned AA sites and blow them out pretty easily. Managed to get around 25 kill by the end of the map. My point is commander should use the thawk since no one can use it as well. Only problem is the time the commander fly the thing he isnt commanding but since the reload time is so long and it takes about 30 sec to hit the land its no biggie.

Re: USMC attacking Berezan island
On our server we don't allow CO's in tomahawks and arty partly due to the overhead advantage it gives....other half being CO duties of course. You can take the tomahawks and snipe snipers with the overhead view.

Mantis, any thoughts on my idea for targeting markers?

Re: USMC attacking Berezan island
Sadly, there is too much air whoring on this map and not enough teamwork for the US.
In all honesty, this map should have all flags neutral and offensive air units spawn once a flag is under control. This would allow both sides to get off their asses in the UCB and fight initially.
On another note: I found the katana on this map
