A rant about landmines and negative scores.
I wish someone could make it so mines do not make a tk, infact they should make them so that the idiot who thinks its ok to drive over red skulls gets a negative score, ussually I just accept theres idiots about, but when an entire squad gets driven over my mines, dies, and then they all punish me, thats just stupidity of the highest order.
Anyone else noticed with the 1.7 release there has been an influx of vanilla players, bringing all that is bad about vanilla bf2 with them?

Re: A rant about landmines and negative scores.
I hear you. It has do with the fact that very few people are able take responsibility for their own actions [stupidity], hence punish in situations like that.
When things like you describe happen and some silly person decide to punish, I get an urge to hunt that person down and knife him in order to make him realise what an intentional TK is.443.Urban Infantry Bat. / Bat. Anti-tank Platoon

Re: A rant about landmines and negative scores.
Always think before dropping mines or claymores down somewhere. These explosive devices should kill your teammates and in game they will if you place them where your teammates are going to be as some point in the near future.
You have to remember that with mines in particular the red skulls do not show up until you are really close...to expect fast movers to drive slow everywhere or be able to stop when they get the indicator is having unrealistic expectations.
So if your on defense at a flag on Carpathian...don't automatically think its a good idea to mine up all the entrances right away. Teammates are going to use your flag as a launch point so the travel points out of the flag that lead to enemy controlled areas are going to be used. Always keep those clear. The paths you want to mine are those where only the enemy should be coming from. Even then though you will definitely get some characters that really annoy the crap out of ya because the mines were in plain sight or they knew they were there and still tried to fly right thru.
So basically what I'm saying is this problem is on both ends. We won't change the mine/claymore logic so it doesn't tk...that will just allow the free kill vanilla spamming(claymores on flags, mines all over the place) and its quite unrealistic. Just always put a little thought into your mine placements going forward and shrug off the players who run over blatant mine placement and punish ya.
New players need time to adjust to our server environment. They are not used to the teamwork, the heavy voip use, the enforced ruleset, FF being on for mines/claymores and in general the non vanilla environment. We just need everyone to put in their best effort to show them the TG way and how things work here. As we create more server regulars the gameplay environment gets better and better. So we can have a larger playerbase and the opportunity to create new regulars or we could go back to the never full dieing server pre 1.7...I know which I will take.Anyone else noticed with the 1.7 release there has been an influx of vanilla players, bringing all that is bad about vanilla bf2 with them?|TG-12th|mantis

Its hard and a risk you run by using mines. As has been said, the best thing you can do is just be smart about where you place them and where you are driving, especially when leaving a forward base that has been under attack as lots of people will toss down mines.

Re: A rant about landmines and negative scores.
On Berezan island, I tend to put them on the entrance track to the beach, in plain view of anyone leaving the beach but not in view of anyone driving onto it, as its out there line of sight, team mates still go zooming off in hummers straight over them, they really should not punish for friendly mine kill though, even if it was hard to see, its annoying as hell getting auto kicked for it.

Luckily, PoE is unranked. Negative scores really don't count for much. It's like the good old days of BF1942. If you don't want people to think that you purposely TKed a whole squad, just send a line on global chat explaining what happened. It may even result in the reckless driver apologizing.

Re: A rant about landmines and negative scores.
I had to do that the other night when I was using the arty to shell an enemy flag where my team was kind of held at the gates and could not get into the flag just yet. So I shelled them away and did pretty good until my team finally moved in and I nailed 3 teammates just as they got to the flag. I was shooting from a long distance away so when I fired off the round, my guys had not started to move in, but by at the very second they moved in is when my shell landed. I felt sooooo horrible about it. Communication was clearly the issue there and I think its a similar situation with mines.
I did redeem myself though as after that I smoked the flag and as the same guys tried to move in, but this time with the chat log (which was very effective without all the spam). While they still were not able to take the flag, I shelled the remaining enemy troops into oblivion and their AA until the next assualt.
I can deal with a lot of things in game but I hate it when I TK, it just makes me feel stick to my tummy.

Re: A rant about landmines and negative scores.
I still rip teammates up every now and then. The biggest problem for me is when an enemy is spotted and I zip around a corner and run into a teammate who just killed the guy. And once I start shooting, it isn't going to stop unless I need to change a clip. It balances out though, because often the other person will react and kill me before I can finish them off.
But man, when I first started playing BF2, I was really terrible for shooting teammates. I therefore nominate myself for "most improved" teamkiller.
Peace through fear... since 1947!

Re: A rant about landmines and negative scores.
I hate when a squad mate runs over my mines while I scream at him to watch out for the mines. It pretty much makes me wanna rip my eyes out of my skull and tap dance on razor blades barefoot
