I find that a manpads effective if you use it in the same area as someone using an AA vehicle, especially if you are in an anti air squad with them, between you its possible to get a plane or helo dumping all its flares and still be able to launch effective shots.
Manpads act as a detterent also, and while a pilots hitting the flare button it means there less effective at there task.

Thats a tow tube thats been used and is without sights etc, dont know why its all over the media as a MANPAD.
