Where NOT to drop med-packs
Being a good medic requires more than just spamming med-bags and running around w/ your shock paddles out. If you're ever in my squad and are a medic, here are some things I like to see:
1) Defense: When we're defending, DO NOT DROP MED-PACKS ON THE FLAG!! This is a huge pet-peeve of mine. I appreciate the thought of setting up a MASH area, but the flag is about the worst place you can pick for that: The flag-cap area is where the enemy will huddled up nice and cozy when they're trying to steal our flag. So the last thing we want is the enemy using OUR OWN med-bags while we're trying to kill them!!! Instead, find some nice cover outside the flag radius and drop them there. Try anticipating what cover WE will be behind when the firefight breaks out and drop them there. Also - Don't leave them out in the middle of the street, or out in a snowy field (Spies Like Us). If I'm almost dead (heh.. or even if I'm at full health I suppose), the last thing I want to do is run out in the open. Instead find some trees to put them behind... or around a building's corner. (Oh - and let the squad know using VOIP... "meds behind the outhouse", or "meds on the south slope", etc..)
2) Offense: Enemy forces can see medbags as soon as they're dropped, so don't throw them around carelessly. Always be aware of the fact that medipacks (and ammo) can act like a homing beacon. When I'm SL'ing and trying to hunt down an enemy SL, medipacks are one of the big indicators I look for. On Fallen, you'll often see bags 'appearing' in some crater off in the fog. On other maps, you'll see them 'appear' in a bunker or cabin. On maps where stealth is important (Fallen & Spies, e.g.), be careful when you drop them. (Also - if you spawn on your hidden SL and he needs health, either carefully drop ONE bag at his feet, or (if you have time) just hold the medipack in your hands and let him heal up.)
3) Traveling: If we're traveling between flags, don't needlessly drop medbags as we go. Instead of blindly spamming them, you should always be aware of your squad-mates' health; if they need even a little health, then by all means drop them a bag. Otherwise, the bread-crumb trail in the middle of no-where does nobody any good. The stealth you preserve now is worth much more to your squad than that single teamwork point you might randomly get 5 minutes from now.Last edited by WhiskeySix; 09-13-2007 at 01:02 AM.

Re: Where NOT to drop med-packs
Never even thought about this, but your absolutely right. I only really think about this when I need health/ammo. I guess, I'll be doing a whole lot more "personal" (not dropping the bag) healing.
Actually, this really explains how that tank knew where our squad was last night on Berezan. We were huddled behind the wall at "Listening Post" when the enemy tank in the yard fired at our part of the wall (taking us out). I now know why.
I never drop bags on the move, you have to wait to get more. Instead, I always go for the "personal" heal.

Re: Where NOT to drop med-packs
I also like the upclose and personal touch as well...especially if you are not going to thank me, then I get something out of it as well.

I try and throw the bags in a tactical position (around corners, in ditches, behind trees..etc) this way if someone needs a heal they can have cover as well.
A huge pet peeve of mine is the spamming of med bags. It's kind of useless if you think about it. Thanks for bringing this to light W6 and hopefully it will add something to the community."Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results." Gen. Re: Where NOT to drop med-packs
Good points; sound tactical sense. Isn't the draw distance on med/ammo bags something around ~30 meters or so?

Re: Where NOT to drop med-packs
ONly time I drop a bag on the move is when there is others behind me who need a resupply and I know they will be picking it up about 3 seconds after I drop it on the way to our next flag.

Re: Where NOT to drop med-packs
You know, I've often wondered to myself why BF2 doesn't give a -1 point for every med/ammo bag picked up by the enemy.

Re: Where NOT to drop med-packs
I have noticed that a lot of the medics will NOT drop med-packs anywhere for their teammates. Gotta love running around screaming "Need Medic!" and getting no reply while being surrounded by medics.
The usage for medic and ammo bags are the same. You have a supply bar in the lower right corner for both. Whether you toss a pack or hold it, the supply bar will drain depending upon usage so you are not saving anything. Unless you are down to the last pack or surrounded by multiple users, it is quicker for everyone to toss it. Otherwise, you are slowing you and your teammates down.-33rd- BaneII

Yeah, dropping them for (or, more precisely, throwing them at) your team mates is the way to go... And don't get me wrong - spamming med's has it's place and time... usually when there's more than one friendly squad in the area and there isn't an obvious front line (e.g. all around the nuke area on Spies or all around the Church area on Orel)

Re: Where NOT to drop med-packs
Good points Whiskey. Had forgotten the ability to see enemy med packs as they're deployed.

Re: Where NOT to drop med-packs
Personally, I like to drop them near my squad leader when he/she is hiding. That way the enemy easily can spot him/her and he/she can earn my respect by fighting his/her way out of a bad situation.

Or deterrent, drop two in the middle of the road and watch the cars swerve around them.
I've even seen them used them to scare someone out of a tank, thinking C4 was placed on him.|TG-12th| fallen

Re: Where NOT to drop med-packs
i make it a point to never drop medpacks unless there is a person who is nearly dead (and in prone) and i know that his body will pick it up immediately upon throwing. otherwise, i just hold it out for the area heal.
It is also something that urks me whenever i see someone spamming out med packs all over they place, and throwing them at me when i don't need it, and most of all throwing them on the flag (all it does is give the other time free health when they madrush the flag)umm... hello?

I'm guilty of all of the above. Thanks for the tips, I'll keep them in mind!
