Discussion: Battlefield 2 / Battlefield 2 - Point of Existence Discussion - REQ: One whole night of Incursion - I have been dying to try this out, and as far as I am concerned
hehehe.. olesko made it into the rotation twice last night! Man... that map so fun. It's intense and non-stop, but it's fun as hell...
I think with it on Incursion mode even with 62 players it can be played tactically to a tee. Which is the whole point of it.
I just honestly wish there were flash bangs in POE for it. DEV's listen up add Flashbangs on the next patch just for incursion. And give them only to assault and spec ops.
I would love to try some more Incursion. Maybe we could make it PART of a night, like up until 9 PM EST, that way we could play regular games afterward.
It is pretty limited with only one map, and it isn't well suited to 40+ players.

Maybe, just maybe it isn't, but of all the times I have played it I have seen some very interesting points of attack, and defensive cluster points. At the moment there are so many variations for an effective assault/suppression and defense of Olesko that if played "tactically" meaning not everyone is going to be going for a flag some people i.e. individual SM's or whole squads will be used to draw fire from assault troops medics and the lot. While a few key positions are kept busy with sniper fire from the islets.
Multiple assaults from the cliff-side with support from outside by snipers and frags/smoke. CO co-ordinating strategic attacks and retreats to ambush defenders at choke points outside the Keep, its all in all a very tactical map when viewed in the light of one round on death.
All those German Engy's might find themselves out-matched by a determined assault squad and 1 or 2 dedicated medics with clever use of over-watch and close quarters support.
Also yes a cut off time would be very good and if there is a packed map all rounds then we can perchance make it a bi-weekly event, similar to a Scrim(but not of course) but long enough so that all the non-supporting types, ME, don't get kicked by all the TG folk who I know have been dying to try it an this server. Sound off if you think its a good idea, could someone make this a POLL???
But you know, I've been thinking (a dangerous pastime, I know ). As much as I enjoy Olesko, with anything more than 40-odd players it's just one massive meatgrinder, which gets old in a hurry. I think that's mainly because just all of the important flags are indoors. What would happen if the flag distribution where arranged such that there were two, maybe three flags indoors at far points in the castle at most with the remaining flags set at different points across the island?
Since it would then become necessary to take and defend more of the island; on the whole, I feel that would open the castle grounds up to more tactical uses and make all the encounters between squads feel much less like one massive, zerg-infested frag party. Defenders in the castle would be more interested in "defending the castle" rather than "defending a flag in the castle" (which mostly doesn't happen anyway, given the rate at which flags are flipped on Olesko).
The potential is there for this map to be at once the high-octane map that we've all been introduced to and a tactically sound, thoroughly enjoyable map to play night after night.
keep in mind, incursion is VERY different from regular conquest on olesko. You only get one life, so you play MUCH more carefully (or you should anyway). It's much more SWAT-style stacked-entry than CS:S. (no offense to you PCS dudes )

See that is what I am talking about, I keep hearing that above 40 players its not tactically sound. IRL, a castle such as this, being assaulted/defended, would invariably cause quite a few senseless deaths, but it would be such a nail biter clearing room by room and tower by tower.
Any players/squads would quickly learn their lesson and adapt a more cautious play structure in the next round.
Support units would play the most important roles, most not even entering the castle outright, the possibilities are endless.
I want to try this so much... I know some have heard this from me before, but that "Hunted" scenario we did a while back with Apophis was the most intense round I've ever played of any game: one life was all you got, and you move carefully...

It could be really good with over 40 well-disciplined players, but you never see that outside of a scrim.

Give them a few rounds to be mowed down and have to wait it out and they will begin to understand that tactics are the only way to succeed.
IMHO, as long as our CO is competent, this could go rather well and ADMIN messages highlighting the incursion rules every so often helps those that can't wrap their head around it through VOIP.
Well, really I didn't know that, makes sense. You haven't given your take on it Mantis, Incursion or not, good or bad idea?
I really want to at least have a few hours of it at least once to settle my feelings on the matter. And I am sure a bunch of POE players would love to see it too.
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
Things usually unfold faster than...
