    Friendly Fraticide Monkey Mayhem

    Hey guys,
I was doing what I thought was a good job of leading a squad tonight. I had set up a defensive perimeter. I had laid some mines and we held of two waves or more! But one of my crew ran over my mine. Of course I was punished for that. Then I took another defensive position in a vehicle in just the right spot and the darn guy spawned on me then proceeded to take my vehicle and drove it right over my mine killing him and me. He punished me! I kicked him from my squad and then was banned shortly after this. I had a great squad except for that monkey and was really bummed.
All to often I am punished by friendly's running over my mines. This was the first time I was kicked. I am wondering is there a toggle for eliminating fratricide regarding friendly mines only as a server option? This would be REAL nice to have. Or can we teach these monkeys that red sculls are not to be driven over sheesh.......

Thanks I take the answer off line.....

There should be a toggle to eliminate stupidity, so those monkeys understand that a red skull and crossbones is not a power-up to collect!

What... you mean this isn't that Mario game and those aren't shrooms and flower-power? Dang! I keep looking for those big, green pipes but could never find them to advance to level 1-4. Now I know why! But what about all the hopping around people do? They're not really busting bricks with their heads?

LOL, I guess thats another way to look at it. I think I will not put any more mines down and go sniper and forget about team work. We all love 64 player maps with 12 squads with one person in each all snipers at the same flag.......or collecting the red skull orbs to take us to the nirvana level 14 so we can trade those points in to buy a couch for our virtual home in never never land...I forget which is the priority....rambling mumbling and generaly now feeling like a virtual reality freak show. Is there an icon for that feeling?

Not an icon so much as a collage. Resize and retarget select sections and you’ve got your icons though?

I've always got a kick out of the kid trying to cop a feel on the chick macking on that dude in the foreground there. Freakishly hilarious marketing faux pas if you ask me.

Did you leave a path through the mines so your team could get through?

I don't know if it was the same game I was in, but I died about 10 times as an engineer trying to wrench up mines that had our armor completely paralyzed.

If you completley seal off an area with mines then you are hurting your team more than helping, IMO.

The best time to lay down flags in a friendly area if your squad is the only squad operating in the area. If there are other unfamiliar players in the area, don't bother because a lot of players are just oblivious. It's better to lay mines far outside of the flag perimeter on approaches where the enemy is most likely to come. One, it avoids the inevitable teamkill. Two, you are more likely to kill the enemy because they don't expect them away from the flag area. The best way to avoid teamkills is to place mines directly under active enemy armor. Of course it takes a high level of skill to do this but it's much more fun.

We were the only ones defending. There was a way to get out. They Monkey was in MY squad. I agree it is best to put mines out on approaches away from the flag. Another good reason for this is that if the armor is able to get that close they will wipe you out on the flag anyway.

Hey I was on another server (I know I know) and they had some setting that allowed you to drive over friendly mines. I know this is not realistic. But I was wondering if thats a "friendly fire off" setting or just a mine setting. Does anyone know what server settings can allow for?

yeah, that is a 'friendly fire off' setting. claymores, gunfire and mines will not kill your teammates if you have that option turned on and you can't set it to only one of the above.

I'm not gonna comment on your potential monkey there blood(if he was in your squad thats certainly quite bad) but in general a lot of people seem to think the fault never lies with the person who laid them. I really don't understand that. When its claymores people usually blame the sniper and rightfully so. You put high explosives around one of your teams spawn areas and your asking for trouble. Mines though people will throw them all over on Carpathian and yet always blame the person just trying to drive out of a friendly base. Players really need to think more when placing mines. These suckers should kill friendlies...turning off friendly fire for them would just result in mines/claymores spam all over for free kills and some sense of realism would be lost. Its pretty careless to just automatically wall up a friendly flagzone with no thought toward whether your friendlies may need to use that road. Bane has some good thinking on where to place them...sometimes its just best not to at all.

I try to wait until someone spots enemy armor on the approach. The only exception is when the SL demands they be placed.

Even better than that is to place the mines on the armor!

I used to do that back in the days when you could jump and toss a mine. It was a way to be more certain of a kill than placing it on the ground.

SPEAKING OF TEAMKILLING, mantis had a memorable one tonight. It was rolling thunder, mantis was whoring the arty like usual, and I decided to run around with the G82 and pop some caps. Well, after 5 minutes of careful manuevering, I found a position that had a decent overlook on Train Yard, as I wanted to defend it from afar. I was north of the UKR UCB and West of the Train Yard. As I'm surveying my field of fire, I see the UKR mobile arty rumble by in front of me, no doubt shifting position to my north. I spot it a couple times to make sure the proper people know it's there (the chopper, I suppose), and then, it happened. I heard that scream that only means one thing, then BAM! I'm TK'ed by mantis. Brilliant buddy, just brilliant.

P.S. Be thankful the enemy didn't notice my rifle lying there and grab it or I might have 'accidently' put a mine under the arty.

You saw the arty cause he was running away from my shells. You just happened to be in the middle of nowhere in the wrong place at the wrong time.
