Re: Retirement
I haven't lost interest in POE, I lost patience in trying to play a cohesive squad based tactical shooter. That is my beef, I played last night two rounds one with the Fifth and one where I SL'd a ragtag group with icantpicknameiwant in my squad. Next off to Orel were I joined Santa's squad with JB4 and all was okay, til Santa dropped out and then our SL became clueless and everything from there went to s%!t. Just ask JB4. Next I played my best round of the night with Anathemax, of course we were in tha HIND so my giddyness factor was x10.
All in all a good night, but too far and few between, and honestly I hate SLing now, but I have been doing it so much for the last few months trying to hone some TG play in the new guys. I may not be the best SL, but I know the rules and I try to keep my squad in check by discouraging lone wolfs and smacktards. Trying to teach ppl the basics, like not shooting after spawning in on your SL(especially with a fricken Sniper Rifle on rapid fire. Can you say hey I am over here any louder!)
But I need to be able to go a whole night without SLing, and still have a good time. I don't see that happening. BTW Mantis what size monitor/jumbotron do you use?
Meh, I am getting too jaded playing now, I can hear it reading this back to myself. Yeah one other thing it would be nice to have that Incursion night before I uninstall, hint, hint

Re: Retirement
I'l miss playing with you and against you--a worthy opponent, and a favorite target for my HEAP rounds...can't say I blame you though.
My experience has been that if I start a squad and have a clear and decisive way of leading, people fall right into line and start playing the TG Way. Maybe I've just been lucky. I certainly understand just wanting to play without being an SL or getting in a TG group to have a good time. Popularity has its price, this isn't the first time we've faced these issues...

Re: Retirement
I have had some less than desirable players on my team but sometimes thats just the way it goes. Its better to stand up and lead by example than to just walk away which in the end only makes the problem worse.

Re: Retirement
lol, you should be! All joking aside, the other night I was in dire need of a support player and had several near me. One guy in particular ran right up to me and past me while I held the Sa7 on Crimea and totally out of ammo. It was frustrating to say the least but it happens.
The best way to improve the situation is to lead by example and play. I believe that walking away and hoping things get better is the surest way to make sure they don't. Without vetern team players, the new recruits will not get the training of the TG way and other vets will have even less team oriented players around.
That is just my point of view at least.

Re: Retirement
I truly understand what you mean Greasy, but I have been SL'ing more since 1.8 than I ever used to mainly because I got sick of ppl tking me or smoking me to get a hind, even if I try to give turns. I have consistently been running a MEDICATED squad almost every round that I am not flying, I try to lay down rules without sounding to much like an @$$.
Some guys just don't want to co-ordinate attacks, protect their SL or god for bid, DEFEND! I try to talk to guys who don't co-operate by VOIP or text or in-game way-points, to no avail, there are just too many of the real A-Holes that believe this is a one man pissing contest.
Let me put it this way, I have had the pleasure to learn from ppl like LuckShot, Mantis & Santa all of whom by themselves are devastating individual players One thing I notice more than anything else, look at Mantis's legendary KDR's for example, they might oft be not so legendary if not for the fact that he is probably revived more times than anything on the off chance that someone actually kills him(very circumstantial). Hence he kills more and dies outright less. ppl don't get that and runs off to go attack some other flag contradicting my direct order of not attacking. If by some grace of god he is still close a Medic runs over to revive him, then the Medic dies, then two more of my squad go over to check the hooplah.
Mantis isn't alone, so his SM's see my SM's coming a mile away. Now if they do kill those guys(off chance) I am still four guys down cos they are both Sniper
, its just me and one other guy on the flag. Mantis is already flanking the direction that my first SM came from so by the time those other two mop up his SM's he is on my rear and his boys are spawning in on the flag as my SM's are roaming looking for him. All that after I told them to get back to the flag. SO now its 6 against 2 and Mantis's squad grabs the flag and makes me a new A-Hole.
I don't have the time to re-check this I just got home from work.

Re: Retirement
I guess if I lived in Montego Bay I would be out surfing and diving and not playing much on the PC But I know thats not the issue here.
As these programs evolve the fun is only as good as the people that play them. I firmly believe this. From my experience I don't think there is a better crowd to work with than TG. The nubes will come and go (nube-noise) and some will learn and stay around (future_contendors) its online game theory.............
Choose your game and choose your weapon and enjoy!

Re: Retirement
Yes, that was definitely a bummer to go from a Santa-led squad in the heat of battle to the screeching halt of silence and then the sound of chirping crickets. I don't know if the guy who became SL even knew it or if he was afk. Fortunately, Raunchy needed people in his squad and we were able to get back into it. It was another fierce battle on Orel. We will just have to ask the SL if they want to do it and if not we will create a new squad. This game is the very best when you are with a group of guys that are into it just as much as you are. I have been more optimistic lately with what I have seen from some newer players. When you have 2 new guys in a squad with 4 regulars they seem to pick it up faster. I play late on Pacific time many nights up to 12 or 1. While there are a lot of names I don't recognize sometimes, it is refreshing to see many of them observing and citing server rules to other players that they are bringing from their experience playing earlier in the night in primetime. I hope this is a sign that more people are "getting it" and they value what TG style is all about.
