Re: Retirement
I've read this entire thread. Kil, sorry to see ya thinking about leaving the POE2 server, but to be honest I'm feeling exactly the same way. Let's face it. The entire BF2 series and mods has become rather "long in the tooth" as the expression goes. I'm looking for something different, something more exciting.
POE2 on the TG server used to be the highlight of most evenings. Now, the frequency of good nights to horrible "death match by sniper" is about 1 to 5. Anyone the knows me should already know that I think the entire sniper class is there to appease lone wolfs and "noobs". I refuse to play another round dominated by snipers and their skilless claymores. So, if on rare occasions I am playing POE2 and you see me suddenly drop out of the game, take a look at the score board. How many snipers are there? There's your answer.
The reality is that people want to do something different once in a while. One can't play the same game night after night before the entertainment value diminishes to an unacceptable level. You know that's happened to you when a re-run of "Friends" seems more appealing than a sniper/noob match on POE.
Time to move on. TF2 is lots of fun, by the way. It isn't really designed to encourage tacticle teamwork though. It's more like Unreal Tourney designed by Pixar.
There are other games coming out in the fall that will be much more in line with what we expect wrt the importance of teamwork and tactics.

Sometimes I feel like 2/3'rds Rice Krispies. Past "Snap" and "Crackle" but just shy of "Pop"!

Re: Retirement
really? death match by sniper? hm. Apparently we've had VERY different experiences on the server. I've actually seen a new group of regulars starting to form up, and have found the game play pretty good. Of course it's not scrim-quality every night, but I still find a fun challenge to be had nearly every night. <shrug>

Re: Retirement
Most of the new regulars I tend to see have no idea what fairplay means, not to mention rules. Half of them still stick to sniper kits even when there is amother sniper in the squad.
Especially on open maps, which makes it hard to take flags, cause everyone is out in distance sniping. It usually leads to a lot of team balancing issues, where on team usually the one with the most snipers gets decimated. Extra short rounds.

Re: Retirement
I really have not seen that many snipers. I played some Euro servers and saw tons of them but not on TG. I love it when the other team goes all sniper because I tend to come in first place with a massive amount of kills and more knife kills than I can count.

Re: Retirement
Well what about the aforementioned, Blue Nile and Berezan, or even Fallen for that matter sometimes. There is no excuse to ever have an entire 6 man squad full of snipers, A dedicated 2-3 man unit I could understand but 5 snipers in one squad that is ridiculous.
Thats bad, but the really bad part is that the SL is just sniping away not giving a damn what all his other SM's are doing. If I am wrong about this maybe you need to enlighten me, but let 9MM tell us. "Was your SL for that squad issuing any kind of orders other than supply drops to himself?
ENLIGHTEN ME!
Come to think of it, this brings to mind a particular round of Fallen the other day, I opted to go play with Mantis in his ....one man squad. Now somewhere near the end of the round Our team wasn't doing so good, I noticed a chat argument ensuing between our CO and some hapless teammate. I sent a text as follows. "CO why don't you stop your yammering and start CO'ing" I was quickly and firmly rebutted as being a 12 year old and whatnot and told that "Where do I think all those supply crates are coming from?" Ahem, now remember this is FALLEN we are talking about here! A quick look at my Squads menu show me that he was surprise surprise, a SNIPER, another look at my map screen, show me that he was in the thick of things shooting it up.
Our CO a SNIPER running in between flags with a number of kills to his credit, dropping supply crates more than likely to himself on Fallen. Am I the only one that sees a huge issue there, O BTW our team was being raped at the time, by some ball bustin', pipe hittin'. Thats my Tarantino reference for the day.
And probably the biggest shame of it all is that he thought he was doing a good job. Nuff SaidLast edited by Lucky Shot; 09-30-2007 at 09:00 PM.

Re: Retirement
I'm really glad you said most, or I might have taken great offense. I'm new to POE, and BF2 for that matter. I only bought BF2 to play POE and I do sympathize with you about the loss of quality game play. I respect your decision to retire, but you do realize that takes one more quality player off the map.

Re: Retirement
As I'm starting to see with 2142's popularity waning, finding a "good" game on the server for 2142 - or POE for that matter - is really hit or miss. Think it's that way for most games, following the arc of discovery, popularity, then fading.
I'm new to POE, but played BF2 for about a year before 2142 came out. I'm loving POE, when I can find good games. That there are as many good games in POE is testament to the user community, and TG in general. Amazing that a mod to a game that's now what, 2-3 years old? still has the following that it does.

Re: Retirement
I may be rather new to the server and forum. However, I understand the stress from snipers at least. I also understand the issue of people not squading up or doing what the CO ask of them and spread out. It is unfortunate. I play what ever kit my SL wants me to play, earlier CB had me go as AT - I'm am horrid with the AT Kit but i still went as it was what we needed. So not all newbs to the server are wanting to be lone wolfs.
However, I have had so many enjoyable games where things were balanced that it more then makes up for the few rounds of sniper slaughter.
I have started playing with a few select people that I like playing with and we generally keep our squad to no snipers or depending on the map and the type of coverage we need on defense maybe 1 to spot on the ground and take out what we cannot.
kilevvri1, although you dominate me when your on, it is still fun to play with the others here i see online just about daily. Sometimes the rounds end up a complete mess but other times squads work to perfection - it is these rounds I sit back and say dang.. that sure was fun.
