Re: Whats going on with Ukrainian planes?
Braidedheadman
First u go to the full public server and fly couple rounds only Ukrainian planes. Try to use SU and MIG and then after u come back here tell me results, what tactic is useful for both planes. I flied about 100 flights may be more since last patch and simply do not see any way to use this planes.
And I can not see a point from the Mantises words about Bane who has 1/3 on SU and that is not bad. Mantis himself has 1/20 on foot and about the same on tank, may be let's downgrade Mantis????? Make him have 3 times less damage??? With the right tactics he still will be able to do 1/3. Why not???
Tell me have u ever see somebody having over 1/3 using Ukranian planes since last patch??? Does it mean that all pilots u saw were just average level?? Have u ever saw people having Eurofighter with 1/20???? I saw at list couple times , I did the same....
Still your point is the same- u can use this junk to have some kills.
And about awful bombs damage-BF2 has even more damage for SU and F-15 and way more of what we have now for all MIG, J, JSF, F18- so what????

Re: Whats going on with Ukrainian planes?
Sigh...
I really don't know why people are so defensive about this whole thing. I'm on your side, really. I do believe that the Frogfoot needs a buff, just not with the bombs; one-shot bombs are not the answer. How many times have I said it so far? I'm tired of repeating myself and I'm sure others are tired of this circular argument as well. I've made my points as thoroughly and as strongly as I care to.
I tell you what. If the people that want to see bombs buffed in power to the point where the Frogfoot can ignore its other two weapon systems again, let them justify their arguments for a change. Present a clean, airtight argument why you think the Frogfoot should be able to kill a tank in one pass without having to put much effort into it and then I might be inclined to start gathering data for a more robust counter argument.
Until then, I really don't think I have much more to say on the matter. Because for the moment, every case that has been made for stronger bombs (both in this thread and elsewhere) seems to follow a pattern of, "The old Frog pwned; now it just sucks because the bombs don't do the kind of damage that I am used to doing." No one ever talks about making the other weapons more effective. It's always bombs this, bombs that.
I'd also appreciate it if someone would explain to me why there is so much resistance to having a stronger nose cannon. I can't tell you how juiced I would be if the PoE2 devs came out with an A10 for the USCM. I'd take the A10's 30mm "Avenger" cannon over its bomb payload any day.
Meh. I've said my piece. I leave it up to the devs to make tuning decisions.

The point why gun will not be an answer??? Ok in DC Frogy gathers most points by gun and bombs suck as much as they suck here. But first Frogy is way more agile there as well as it is way easier to locate targets. In fact if SU25 would gain some more trust and longer gun burst it will be powerful enough to take down armour again. But the point is- when we have pair-SU MIG vs. Eurofighter Tornado nothing will help SU unless MIG will be capable to take down something. Otherwise it is still piece of junk no matter haw powerful it is. See -Frogy can not bite back as it is possible for Tornado and indeed Tornado easily take him down, and Eurofighter just owns MIG - so what we have is- total domination of Germany in the sky, no matter haw powerful SU will be- it will not make him live longer. Remember- Su is way more vulnerable to Helos and ZSU than other plane due to the low speed- so now it is lack of power + short life.
See the plan was-Ukraine have powerful ground attack plane wile Germany have better AA capability. Now Germany dominates both.
Once again- gun would be good, but not with this level of agility+ trust and target locating capability.

Re: Whats going on with Ukrainian planes?
I was dogfighting on some pub in the mig, I put up decent numbers, and nothing like a 10:1 KDR.
My opinion is that if you are getting ~10:1 in a plane, its probably A) overpowered or B) there's no formidable resistance (note: even crap-ass resistance can zerg a good pilot and kill him). Also, I am quite happy with the frogfoot nerf, I do feel the bombs are lacking in power, but thats only because of the way they are fixed on the wing. You have to aim slightly left or right (depending on which bomb) of the bomb reticule to land a direct hit - once you master that technique, you can 1 shot tanks (or get them critical). I do not think the gun needs a buff, a full burst is more than enough to wipe out a tank if you approach it correctly (doing a recon pass or 2 beforehand.)
As to this whole MiG / Frogfoot vs. Eurofighter / Tornado debate. Here is my whole skinny on it (which has been stated in depth already).
The MiG is designed for hit / run tactics and not an active "dogfight", if you dogfight in a MiG, you are dead. When I am in the MiG and find a plane, i ALWAYS have my gun selected and I manually ID enemy planes, maneuver on their six, shoot them with the gun THEN quickly select to missiles and take him down OR get him in the red zone with a single missile. If the plane takes evasive action once I fire the gun, I AB out of there and re-acquire him with missiles, as he is probably hurting and going to the main to repair.
The Frogfoot is slow as molasses, good i say, because nothing is more satisfying than seeing them overshoot you when you throttle down to LOLstallspeed and you end up shooting them up with the cannon. Altitude, the use of the environment (trees, buildings) and your lack of speed can be your best friends in the cockpit, I can't begin to count how many AIM-120s I have shaken off with responsible countermeasures and evasion techniques.
The Euro is a much bigger threat than the tornado, since the Tornado has the short-range AA rockets, and the EF has the AIM-120s. They also have less ammo than the MiG, which puts them at a disadvantage 1v1 firepower wise. If the EF runs out of AA, then the MiG can easily turn the battle in their favor. The EF AND Tornado are also screwed if they engage the frogfoot and he alerts the MiG (if they are using VOIP).
The Tornado is best suited for doing ground attack runs as it takes his entire AA to kill a plane (this figures in countermeasures). Very ammo limited.
The germans may have 1 more AA plane, but the ukrainans have an extra ground AA tank. To preempt you, the sheer presence of the shilka and SA-13 targeting you in 2 different locations of the map is more than enough for the pilot to take evasive action or send him up in the sky, where he is less useful against choppers and the FROGFOOT.
The best weapons against planes though are knowledge and communication, not an arbitrary number of units.
My 2 cents.

On a different note:
Do AA missiles obey some degree of physics? Does gravity affect them?

Re: Whats going on with Ukrainian planes?
I suppose to be unbaned today. everybody welcome to show me his point. First-I'm on eurofighter and Iconic, Mantis or Braidedheadman on MIG. Good luck to u guys. U get numbers equal to mine- I will admit here that I am awfully pilot and understand nothing in flying planes.
Promise not to cheat.

I never said I was a good pilot.
I'm only good for bombing runs really...

Re: Whats going on with Ukrainian planes?
I can not express my disappointment by words
. The only chance to beat the greatest Mantis.... Ok. but I'm sure Iconic and Braidedheadman r good pilots, so I will have at list two people to practice air tactic
. It will not be a good statistic experience, as we need wide enough group to have trustable results
Still I'll keep my words if I'll be dishonored
.

Re: Whats going on with Ukrainian planes?
After all this back and forth, I am honestly a little disappointed something more formal was not arranged. Can we at least pick a time and place for this "testing"? : )

Re: Whats going on with Ukrainian planes?
I need to be unbaned first
I believe Santa forgot about me. But if u want to make official testings (actually I find this as very good idea) I'll be the first to support this. At list we can find out something about real MIG, SU and other planes capabilities.
And it would be a very good idea to find out some official info about this planes.
The things I would like to know-a real damage of AA rockets, guns and bombs as well as NURS for all planes; distance of the lock; speed, time of afterburner; turn radius; altitude of loosing control (in BF2 it is different).

Ill do it! 64 player H2H, Sambir, Guardian and Dnipro should be good for testing
