Hey guys,
I am not sure if this topic has been broached before. I bet it has and beat to a bloody pulp......But I was wondering this:
Tonight I lagged real bad on like 3 maps. I noticed everyone getting the drop on me. I am sure it had to do with my lag but I was wondering why?? Then I started to think about ping, internet up link and down link speeds, processor speed, video card memory and the like.
1. What does the software do to level this?
2. For what the SW can not level what (in the order of most significant) affect ones draw speed (being able to get the drop on some one I mean).
On a different note, a lot of times when I thought I got the first shot off some guy, while he is taking damage, he does some kinda dive to the ground and I'm dead in less than a second. I found that always kinda annoying.
Yup I think you're referring to the dive/prone/roll thing that was hugely popular in Vanilla BF2. I remember reading that the software greatly increases your accuracy when prone, as you would expect and that the roll thing is merely an animation. The opponent going prone actually just moves sideways on the ground, a sort of laying strafe as it were and the roll animation does not affect them in any way. However it does appear to the person facing this gymnastic routine. I thought and hoped they had ironed this out. It seems like everytime I come across this borderline 'exploit' I am headshot despite being first to draw. This and other such antics was part of the reason I stopped playing vanilla, admittedly the list is so long it would probably overload the server. Hopefully this can be adressed somehow.

Buck up kiddo, after a while you will get used to all the different positions and how best to dispatch your opponents. I did.
Also just because you think you had the drop on him, his ping might be a fraction below yours, that means they have the drop on you.

I had forgotten that little drop'n'roll movement in BF2, playing 2142 over the last 8-9 months. It is very surprising to crouch, get a couple shots off, and have the other guy just drop - and boom you're dead.

For everyone complaining about this....your problem is with when you decide to fire your gun...not with the prone for solid accuracy. If you had the jump on someone then you should win the engagement...period. Remember when you are firing your gun you are a stationary target...your enemy however was moving. So if you fire and miss well they will take note of your position and then stop and nail you since you are an easy stationary target. It all has to do with the poor bf2 engine hit detection code and using this in regards to fire discipline. Check out the section of this post that involves charts that will better explain this.
Ok,
I understand that position and cone of fire etc plays a role in hit accuracy but thats not the topic here. I am more interested in the SW employed to address all the clients with respect to time. Is there any info on how the routine shakes hands and addresses the timing of motions and actions etc? This would be very interesting reading.
Also I am sure the SW can't level everything for that I was still wondering what in order significance effects draw speed.
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
Things usually unfold faster than...
