.I don't mind new players too much if they have a good attitude. Some do better then vets because they have the humility to follow orders. I can't stand the girly voices though. I just block them immediately or I have to leave the squad. Nothing ups the immersion in the atmosphere at war more then a little girl yelling "Mommy I want my milk, NOOOOOOW" http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hsv0EVFLDo

Re: Have you noticed?
Not to hijack the thread but after hearing that kid whine about his milk, try to listen to this kid who just wants to finish a game of World of warcraft

Re: Have you noticed?
I think I know why society is going down the crapper, I'm only 20 and I remember a time where kids got the beats for talking like that to their parents ( I was raised by my grandparents but meh, close enough ). No respect these days.
But, on topic: that's exactly what I don't want to hear in PR lol |

Re: Have you noticed?
This is why I have the super-duper parenting solution for when I have kids. I'm going to get one of those old school wooden barrels like you see in old western movies. I'm going to cut a small hole in the side big enough to put a plate and glass on, solitary-confinement style. Then, when my kid is old enough to walk and talk, the kid goes in the barrel. Once a week, I'll clean out the barrel with a firehose, using a cattle prod to keep the kid at bay in the barrel while it gets cleaned. At 18 years, I roll the barrel to the front door, pop the top, kick it over and say "now go get a job".
Either that, or I'll just use half-decent discipline on my kids so by the time they're 4 years old they know better than to talk to me like that kid in the video did to his parents. If that were my kid, not only would his computer be gone, but so would everything electronic in his life. He'd be learning the value of books REALLY fast.

Re: Have you noticed?
People amaze me sometimes...
My roommate is a WoW junkie, and when people talk about video game addiction, this kid's got it. Every day after class he hops on his computer and logs on. Stays on till about 3 in the morning, on school nights when we have to be in class @ 9. One week he went over 80 hours of WoW, and that's just WoW, he played quite a bit of halo too that week. What makes it worse is that his parents bought him EVERYTHING. He broke his headset with his chair, so his parents bought him a $120 one from newegg and shipped it to him. His mom shipped him Halo 3 so he didn't have to leave campus to go get it. And then his mom asked me to drag him out of his room so he can get fresh air. It's the kids who have the problems, but its the parents who create them.

Re: Have you noticed?
I had a roommate that was like that my freshman year of college Nardini. I was unlucky enough to have to live in the dorms, so I had to share a room with this kid, complete everquest addict. He spent every waking minute on this game, half the time he didnt even shower cause he was too busy playing to be bothered with bathing. So I came up with a solution to the problem: vice.
By vice, I dont mean the cops. I mean bad habits. I came from a party high school, so I knew how to balance partying and school without flunking out (3.95 GPA punks). First, I started drinking and smoking in the room with the door open. This enticed other friends of mine to come over and do the same. I then bought a couch and a TV for the room, which drew in more people. By this point, he was getting very aggravated that his gaming was being interrupted by all the people there. I tried to gently impart to him that he was in college, and if he didnt like the social life, he shouldnt have gone to what was the #1 party school in the country that year (ok, i'm busted, now you all know why I went to colorado). He didnt take the hint. Well, at the beginning of the year, we had made the typical roommate "sock on the door" agreement. Bad move for him. I started taking this into effect. I would bring home girls from parties and kick him out. Sometimes I'd just bring over female friends of mine from my dorm and kick him out and we'd just sit around and watch tv or shoot the breeze. Didnt necessarily have to be sex involved, but so long as I brought a girl over, I had free reign to kick him out. I started with just doing it at night, then I started doing it at all hours of the day. Just before thanksgiving, he started packing his stuff up. I asked him if he got a new room or something and he told me that he was withdrawing from school and going to a local college back east where he could live with his parents and not be bothered by all the partying. I apologized for having interfered with his studies and he responded by telling me that it wasnt his studies that were interrupted, but his "private time" and he couldnt take it anymore. I had basically turned his 80+ hour/week everquest habit into a 5-10 hour a week habit and it drove him insane. I wished him luck and thanked god the day he moved the hell out. I later found out that one of my close buddies had gone to high school with him. He said he talked to the kids parents one time when he went back home to visit his folks after we all had graduated. Apparently, he didnt go to class once when he was at CU and was going to get slapped with academic probation if he hadnt withdrawn cause he had F's in all his classes. Then he did go to the local college back home and failed out because he didnt go to class there either. His parents got him counseling for his "addiction" to video games, which didnt work, so they booted him out of their house. He's now 25 years old, lives in an apartment that his mommy and daddy pay for and he plays WoW all day long. He has supposedly gained over 200 lbs and never leaves the house. Doesnt surprise me. I tried to help the kid, but he just wouldnt take it. Some may call it dissuasion through torture, but I did what I could. Oh well.

Re: Have you noticed?
Amazing - my kids get off the computer when they're told to. No arguing, no crying, nothing. They earn their time by doing their homework and chores, and when the time is up, that's it. Why can't parents be parents to their kids first, friends with their kids second?

Re: Have you noticed?
gay al i dont know anyone who takes rilatine, but i will admit i have the adhd, but the ritalin doesn't do the trick anymore, (after 9 years, what will) ha, jk...seriously though, i thought if u stay engineer the mines stay, even after you die.......
its nice that there has been an influx of players, but i agree with you guys, its almost near t-giving break, then winter break and there will be more pre-pubescent voices on later at night......it makes me wonder if their parents know what they are doing, or if some of them even have parents.....nothing worse than a kid who just wants to fly or be a sniper and doesn't have a clue how to do either one, and get in the chopper, doesn't let it warm up, and BAM!!!!!! crash, then complains........its the little things. |
