Re: Hope that PR does not get THIS realistic
You know what makes me mad Gillespie? When you leave the weapons to the armorer and they tear it down, put it back together and the buffer isnt filled correctly, and the H&T is crap. Oh and wait, the backup .50 cal is the same way... The guys we had working would take offense to us questioning THIER job, so, we learned the hard way, always do the weapons maint. yourself. Check and double check, everything.

Re: Hope that PR does not get THIS realistic
Nice explanation Gillespe.
This is the mistake that American heavy weapons have always made. There's easier ways to get this job done, but we usually don't build 'em like that. Example: German heavy machine guns, specifically the MG42 (which is still seeing service, believe it or not) and it's cousin the MG34. To set the barrel in the weapon, the housing twists to the side, you twist the barrel itself, and pull it from the housing. To set a new barrel, repeat in an opposite fashion. I once heard a WWII vet gripe that his water-cooled machine gun took about 10 to 15 minutes to change a barrel, while the Germans could do it on the fly in combat. German engineering for the win. |
