Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making
heh it happens all the time, Friendly Fire is a part of the game. My only advises are to always keep an eye on your radar and call all your contacts before engaging them. Actually I think I remember the TK from last nite, the guy was apparently a new comer. He TK me and didn't even say sorry then you TK him few minutes later and he punished almost instantly .. Vanilla reflex i guess..

Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making
Honestly, the map is so important when id'ing a friendly/foe.
Your eyes shouldnt be trusted at that kind of range.

Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making
IMO, it's better to hold still and hide until you have a clear shoot.
Pros: less chances of missing the target, you don't give your position away and you don't give that enemy something to shoot back at.

Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making
Let me tell you, I can empty a whole clip at an enemy squad bunched up around a rally point 20m in front of me and miss every time. But when I try to ID an unknown silhouette in a house from across the river Quai and slip the button, I get a one-shot TK.

Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making
Murphys law is putting down a mine on 1 foot of hundreds of feet of available flat road and having a helicopter come along 1 minute later and land perfectly on top of that mine
If you tk too much, go medic till you improve a bit. I often tk snipers for some reason, their weird outfit freaks out my enemy detection Maximise your minimap so that the foreground is obviously hostile or friendly. N is the minimap zoom shortkey for me, bf2 will constantly try to fit the whole map into that minimap but you want max zoom so keep fixing that. Make the minimap see through, you dont need the map terrain background to it. Only is there any friendly in front of me or not. Its a split second decision and so the more obvious the contrast the better you will do Still not sure if minimap is going to be removed or not, that would suck tbh |

Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making
To make you feel better, here's something absolutely stupid that I did. I was commander of the Chinese team on a round, we won the map, and on the new map, I became commander of the USMC team.
For some reason, I still thought I was on the Chinese team. I was deploying a bunker when I noticed a HMMV next to me with the driver's seat manned. I freaked out and shot the driver at point blank 12-15 times in the face with burst fire......then I realised....that was a friendly as I was on the USMC team. Apologies to Sabre Tooth Tiger! ![]() |

Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making
On things stupid, I shot our commander truck with HAT in a blind panic, unfortunately Commander was driving at the time. He was very gracious about the whole thing which was surprising as I could provide no plausible excuse for my freak out.

Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making
The dark beards of the mec soldiers stand out the most to me, kind of a strange thing to look for huh? But it works, I usually only get a TK every 3 rounds or so.

Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making
I take the drastic approach of spamming a quick spot, fall prone to the ground, then fire or frag out, while shouting in team chat "action short range!"
worst case scenario i get shot first, watch the guy get pounced on by my squad, and then get rezzed by a medic. The spot helps everone in squad know the direction to look for more unspotted enemies...but i do find myself at times thinking..."damn, i could have just shot the dude..." Ive heard that after next patch spotting will get disabled, and I'll have to change my plans to just going prone while checking the minimap instead of spam-spotting. I'll probably still spot a dot anyways, just to let my team know where to look.

See signature for details. I hate that dang fog.
---- As far as the minimap thing, it's a great tool I know that - but at ranges of 10-20 meters and mixed enemy/friendly squads, there's no help from it. I just need to work on my model recognition a bit more. Perhaps flash cards? ..... no. --- Quote:

Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making
You may or may not be aware of this, but you can zoom the minimap so when you're in close-quarters you can distinguish the location of friend and foe. My keyboard is still set to the default mapping of "N".
