I had an incident like that on Kyongan Ni (or whatever its called), me and a squad member were moving up the riverbank, I was a support gunner. We were waiting for the rest of our squad when the bush nearby moved, we realised it was a sniper in his ghillie suit. He fired off a few shots and we were like 'good work mate, keep those chinese heads down.' While we were waiting i took the opportunity to study the sniper to see any distinguishing features (to help with target recognition). I looked closer and thought 'Hmmmmm, he doesn't appear on the minimap. And he has a bit of an oriental looking face. Hey, his smoke grenades have chinese letters on too! Hey wow, he has a chinese flag on his belt.'

At that moment he looked up at me and we both realised. He whipped out his pistol and fired, but I was quicker to the trigger with my SAW and emptied about 15 rounds into his head.

It happens.

Ive heard that after next patch spotting will get disabled, and I'll have to change my plans to just going prone while checking the minimap instead of spam-spotting. I'll probably still spot a dot anyways, just to let my team know where to look.
What's this about no spotting in the next patch?

I've heard rumor (just a rumor) that spam-spotting ("Q" + enemy spotted) will eventually be changed so we will have to manually hit "Q" + right click and pick the actual target. Don't know if the target will then still track on our mini-map.

I would love this change, as it would add much more realism to the game...but I think it will slow the pace down significantly.

Oh I know this. I leave it far out for tanks / choppers etc and close in for infantry.

Depends on whether I'm in a village or something, whether I have it zoomed right in or medium. I don't like the full zoomed out map, it's hard to see landmarks and vehicles properly.

Yep I've been there. I remember running along and hopping into a ditch with what I thought was some of my team. I was wrong but it took all of us about 5 seconds to figure it out.

Brits can be recognized at range due they peculiar looking somewhat bloated torso and light brown color. MEC have a dark brown torso, lighter limbs, and beard. Chinese are light colored heads and thin, dark mottled green body. USMC have black faces but light scalp and dark green solid uniforms. Militia... well anyone can tell them apart from brits. I always use these characteristics and rarely ever get a tk at ranges>90meters.

I check my map before going into hostile areas and remember where my friendlies are.

I try to do the same, if theres no friendlies then you can react quicker and more indiscriminately.

Otherwise you have to recognise by sight and be carefull of the blast radius / indirect fire.

Sniper can spot targets onto a map still and I think HAT should be able to as well I think

Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making

The way i make sure i can distinguish between enemy and freindly, is by hovering my mouse over them. If no name appears, i go to stage 2. I check the map really fast. Stage 3, i line up my shot carefully, wait for deviation to stop, and get 1 to the side of his head. If i see someone running, i skip all the steps and just look at the camo to make sure. Its incredibly easy to tell between brits and insugents/militia, becuase of their highly differed uniforms.

Re: Advice needed: Shoot/No Shoot decision making

I just look and instantly know, kind-of an instinct I've developed I guess. The surefire way to get rid of this problem though is REMOVE THE MEC, IRL there is no such thing as the MEC and why should it exist in a game based off of reality.
