There is a silver lining, one day dice might release the Engine, then we can have our beautiful Zip-lines...all 2 of us.

Re: Check out the BF Bad Company footage

I tried out sp bad company on the 360 and its better then I thought it'd be.

The graphics have an arma-like fuzziness to them now with no noticeable wall of fog. The sounds are improved, they have copied jaymz and done some distant sound effects. Im not sure its as good as pr though tbh

The vehicles seem more sorted, the 6x6 truck is fairly unstoppable where the vodnik and humvee feel more like the pr saxon, solid but lethargic
Vodnik wont float, they got the bmp1 with just the apc like gun I think.

Everything blows up but 50 cal wont go through a wall, it has to be nade like damage

The terrain seems less angular

Re: Check out the BF Bad Company footage

i don't want to reign on your parade stevieray because besides being the most B.A. Guitar player known to man, its nice to see that you are actually alive and well, and playing games online.

but has EA lost its mind? They are even going as far as to promote it when you log into BF2, and the funny thing, is (it really is funny) that its for the console system. Talk about having some big brass balls.........I hope bf3 if it ever comes out doesn't turn out to be just more intense COD-type of game play, but thats just me.

Look how long army of two took to come out (and look at what an impact it had in the gaming world) Maybe EA should first take over, Take Two Interactive in a hostile takeover and then promote computer games for consoles.......bc at least then they would have a stronger hand in the cookie jar, and could waste the money on that type of promotion.

Now, NHL 2009 looks pretty good, but it doesn't come close to NHL93, and '94 for Genesis, you guys know what i am talking about(those born in the late 80's or early 90's u will have no clue what i am talking about), and NHL97 was pretty good for the PC.

Zaboo I agree with you, though ArmA does come in a close second but thats a different topic for a different forum.

Re: Check out the BF Bad Company footage

Being a loyal BF game buyer I feel betrayed that they are making a console game instead of continuing with their current PC line of BF. I have bought every version of the BF series on blind faith in the company (I do the same with total-war series).

I think this is the perfect moment for an up and coming game company to steal the loyal multi-player baser they have; all it would take is a BF2 type game with a little better graphics and better SDK support with a focus on the multiplayer.

Personally I hate console FPS, playing them feels like riding a bike with those training wheels on the sides.

I think this is a good comparison.

Now I haven't played the game in question but I understand the comparison made here with NHL93/94, just by looking at these ads. NHL93 had alot of style and atmosphere, where a game would turn even by the cheering of the crowd pumping up a player on fire, or the team. That was its depth. Later games were just push button glitzy stuff with no real depth. You could 'feel' NHL93 and we'd sit up all night all rooted to the spot as two players battled it out and the story unfolded.

I still remember Pavel Bure being taken out by some heated up guy who was put on specifically for the job :/ It was as if the game understood. Wipeout. 6 Months, from this baboon put on and realy hyped to do as much damaged as he could. The crowd went wild, and my team slumped at this disaster, they had been teatering anyway but this in the final minutes put the brakes on. It was too late to get 'hot' again though some players tried hard as their 'hotness' was up. And you bet, I was a hell of a player on Russia or Vancouver, we'd had our moments of glory and now all the guys were bantering about my 'star player'.

And so there it was, some crazy making goals, conflicts and fights where we'd be roaring, on and on, game after game, weekend after weekend. And this is on a game, not a match, but it sure felt like one. Being british I even went on to support Vancouver from that game, in NHL94 (I think. In any case 93 is undoubtedly the best, and although I support the Czech Republic - and so have to dislike Russia - I still have a soft spot, and they are still that good, cheating aside.. though then again, we could start going on about a certain match between CR and Finland a couple of years ago).

What we have here is nothing, in this 'shooter'. It is like 99% of all 'rehashes', totally inferior. Just special effects and the mind dribbles on as you go through the motions. I mean, even the guy promoting it seemed to have trouble seeling the game on its merits, as in reality, there were none. This is certainly no 'classic'.

I would be happier with NHL93. Or if I have a wish for a shooter, yeah a Project Reality, type game that was a bit smoother. But to be honest, I'm like the guys who will still be on this 'old engine', of BF2, if it doesn't improve in this wish.

In short, no thanks EA, I seen you kill games before but I hope Project Reality gets its teeth into something like this to make something actually good now, great.

DICE confirms five Battlefield titles in development

Quote:
At GDC Paris today, Ben Cousins, executive producer at EA's DICE studio, has confirmed that the team is currently working on no less than five titles in its Battlefield franchise.

EA announced at the start of the year its first entry in the free-to-play market would be Battlefield Heroes, and the publisher is set to release Battlefield: Bad Company for home consoles this Friday.

But the team is also at work on three other games based on the series, including a traditional core game aimed at consoles, and a new collaboration with Neowiz specifically for the Korean market.

"Since the start of this year I've been working as executive producer for the entire Battlefield franchise - we've got five titles in development at the moment, which is probably more than you expect," Cousins told the GDC Paris audience during his keynote presentation.

Battlefield publisher Electronic Arts holds a 19 per cent stake in Korean outfit Neowiz – which operates FIFA Online in the region for EA – and the two companies announced last year that they intend to co-develop four more titles for Asia, with Neowiz set to publish two of the projects in Korea and Japan.

Cousens told GamesIndustry.biz recently that the desire to work in the free-to-play market came from a business trip to South Korea and analysis of the region which showed piracy had destroyed the traditional publishing model.

Battlefield Heroes is for the "frustrated, restricted" player - Cousins

Ben Cousins, executive producer for EA's DICE studio, has detailed how the the forthcoming free-to-play game Battlefield Heroes is targeting an audience currently snubbed by traditional gaming.

The game – EA's first major entry into a market that is popular in Asia but still finding its feet in the West – hopes to capture the imagination of those who can't afford the latest homes consoles, are intimidated by the idea of playing with experienced gamers, or who can only dedicate a small amount of time to playing videogames.

"So who is Battlefield Heroes for? The marketing guys love to come up with snappy titles for market segments. The market segment they came up with for us was 'frustrated restricteds' – people who really want to play full games, and aspire to be gamers," Cousins told the attendees of GDC Paris during his keynote speech.

"But they're restricted in some way, and this makes them frustrated. Maybe they're restricted by money, time or skill?

"For example, a 15 year-old boy who can't afford a PS3 – he's desperate to play Call of Duty, but can't afford the console. Maybe a 30-35 year-old guy who is a new dad, who used to play games, but is restricted by time. Or maybe a new gamer who loves the idea of playing games but heard that all people who play multiplayer games are really skilled."

Cousins also compared boxed videogame products and the delivery of games via the internet, stating that he believes gaming's in a similar position to the "mid-1940s" when audiences doubted the future staying power of television compared to cinema, as he's expecting online and web-based gaming to become standard in year's to come.

Re: Check out the BF Bad Company footage

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but.......from this latest trailer BF Bad Company IMHO is a Single Player game based on the WW2 Clint Eastwood Movie Properly Named "Kelly's Heroes". For those who might have missed this excellent movie which also starred the late Carrol O'Connor (From heat of the night and All in the Family), Donald Sutherland, Don Rickles and a Plethora of other actors, and have seen the somewhat updated version that was loosely based and called Three Kings.

Check out the Link and let me know what you think, and if you get a chance rent Kelly's Heroes.

Re: Check out the BF Bad Company footage

I am hoping to go out and buy BF:BC today. Anyway I have been playing the heck out of the demo and will say that the gmae is great, arty actually makes some craters in the ground!!! Only thing that has me disappointed so far is that I can not use the PS3 controller to good so can not aim all that great. Flying the heli in the demo with the controller is a breeze though. Funny watching all the people crash the heli when it is so simple to fly with the SIXAXIS controller. The demo does not have any other flying vehicles in it but tanks, APC's, & cars for both teams.
If this is something like a testing ground for BF3 for the PC that is rumored to be out later this year then it is going to an awesome game.

Re: Check out the BF Bad Company footage

BF: Heroes I don't believe will be all that great. It will be good to finally have a free BF game, but imagine all the advertising that will go into it

BF: Bad Company I have the demo on my PS3, and I have to say it's one of the better online games. Unfortunately I went to go pick it up yesterday but my local store didn't have it. Bad Company really lacks on the teamwork component, but my friends and I just find an empty teamspeak server and talk through there to get our commands out. Also on Bad Company you can invite friends into your squad so that you can spawn on each other.

I was also reading on Kotaku that three more BF titles are set to be released. One more console, one unknown (hopefully BF3), and one for korea.
