Wearing the |TG| tag

I think this post in the Official Announcements forum deserves a plug:

"You may see players on the servers using the "TG" tag in their name when they play on the server. Players who become regulars quickly ask: may I use the TG tag in my name?

Anyone who endorses and practices our playstyle and rulesets may wear the TG tag when playing on our or other servers. Bottom line: if you support TG for what it is and want to show that support, the TG tag is a good way to do it. Many players who love it here choose not to sport the tag in their playername, and that's fine, too, if that's what you prefer. The option is there for you to take or leave.

We love it when people support this community with Supporting Memberships, but it's not required to wear the TG tag.

I just want to re-iterate that by wearing the TG tag you are representing TG and our style of play. Wearing the TG tag means you have read and understand our rules, SOPs & announcements."

How to add the tag:

1) Open this file (in notepad, e.g.):

C:\Documents and Settings\*you*\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Global.con

2) Edit the second line to look like this:

GlobalSettings.setNamePrefix "|TG|"

note: it's the pipe symbol, not the square brackets: |TG| ... [TG]

Re: Wearing the |TG| tag

Also, please note that people you see wearing augmented TG tags, such as |TG-6th| and |TG-Irr| are members of In-House Squads.

These squads are not a free for all and you have to be a member to wear the tags. All of the In-House Squads with the exception of the Irregulars require you to be a supporting member and either apply for admission or be recruited. The Irregulars require an admission process and you can learn all about them in their forum, located at the bottom of the "Battlefield 2" forums here.

As posted above, if you are not a member of an In-House Squad but still wish to wear the TG tag, the standard |TG| is the way to go.

Cheers,

Re: Wearing the |TG| tag

Unfortunately, tags such as |TG-irr| or |TG-6th|, contain too many characters for a prefix and cannot be entered. Typing |TG-irr| in the folder mentioned by Whiskey above, will show as the full prefix but in-game will show as |TG-ir. You may need to make a new game account to show the tags.

That's too bad. At least you don't have to worry about losing any accumulated stats in PR.

Not that it would matter, as here, only the way you play matters.

Re: Wearing the |TG| tag

I'm putting on the tag now. I am just wondering, do I need a mic or something to wear this, because at this moment, I don't have a mic.

It helps to have a microphone, but it's not a requirement.

Re: Wearing the |TG| tag

I think I speak for most of the veterans on the server.

Having a Mic is not a requirement but a benefit. Having VOIP turned on however is not an option it's a requirement. You must be able to hear the SL or the Commander but it is possible to get away with typing quickly to respond.

Not having a Mic is a hindrance when in a vehicle that requires quick communications between the Driver and the Gunner. Tanks, APCs, TOW Humvees come to mind. Also it's a bit of a hard time to type and fly a Heli or a Jet. Some can do it but it's difficult.

Hence you find out quickly why having a Mic is a good thing and how it facilitates teamwork and quick communication.

Here are three alternatives for you to solve your Mic issue. They are very cheap these days and vary in quality. There is not real good or bad but understand when it comes to Mics and Headsets you do get what you pay for.

Plantronics Multimedia Stereo Headset (Music, Gaming, Voice) (Audio 350)
I had a set of these for a bit when I needed a cheap pair for the laptop. So far they work fine. Less than $20.

Logitech Desktop Microphone (980240-0403)
I have used this microphone before and experienced no issues with it before giving it away to friend in need of one. Less than $15.

Plantronics Open-Ear Full Range Stereo Gaming Headset (Audio 370)
I have this at home for my primary headset on my primary computer. I've been using them for almost 2 years and have absolutely no issue with them. I find them very comfortable for many hours of playing online. For under $40 I highly recommend them.

Good luck and welcome!
