Re: PR Dev Journal.

Thx for the link Sabre, great thread.

Those laser-guided bombs look like mini JDAM 's .

Re: PR Dev Journal.

Yea I like it, they are called jdams afaik. Just smaller then the main one we get. The effect is just right because it reflects how important they are, right now people underestimate their usefulness

Found some pics I had saved, not sure which map this is

JDAM = Joint Direct Attack Munition. It is just a guidance system attached to low-tech bombs, so a JDAM can be a 500lb bomb or a 2k bunker-buster.

I tend to think of the laser-guided bombs dropped from jets as JDAMs and the CO-ordered big blasts as more of a tactical nuke.

Re: PR Dev Journal.

Yea the hourly one is 500lb I think I read and the jet dropped one is 200lb, same as you see on the back of the insurgent truck.
The damage wave for the smaller ones can go right through solid objects but I dont think the hourly one can for some reason.
I call the jet ones LGB to avoid confusion

Check this out for a bf2 nuke

Re: PR Dev Journal.

A JDAM isn't a bomb, it's just a system attached to a dumb bomb to make it guide-able. Hell, you could have a 1 pound dumb bomb and make it a JDAM lol.

Re: PR Dev Journal.

A JDAM is the bomb, not just the guidance system. If it was the guidance system, it wouldn't have "munition" at the end.

A JDAM is a cold-war era dumb-bomb (a dumb-bomb is a bomb that just falls and explodes wherever it lands. No extra technology) with a GPS system attached
(That is correct, GPS, not laser guidance). I believe the story behind was that someone in the Clinton administration got the idea when he/she was attaching a lowjack to their car. Instead of buying new, $200,000 bombs, they spent only a couple thousand to upgrade their existing bombs.

Re: PR Dev Journal.

Based on size I would think that that comm bomb is a 2000 pounder and the jet one is 500 lbs.

PS. is the pr site down?

Re: PR Dev Journal.

As JDAM = Joint Direct Attack Munition, it means that any grounded forces can call for that bomb and any of the forces (Army, Navy, Air force) can deliver.

Re: PR Dev Journal.

I dont think its stupid. Its an ideal solution for every sm who glazes over as I try to direct them via voip, people should react much better to visuals imo
I wish sl had a flare gun, a bugle, a whistle - anything is good

Re: PR Dev Journal.

Actually, .8 might have map changes so that you can only see the location of your squadmates or something similair. This would make the different colored smoke really helpful.

The bolt is removed, so there would be no way the gun could fire, haha.

That would be amazing and would make a commander absolutely VITAL.
