If you press M while shovelling a firebase you can see the map and you could do the same while walking I think

What I do during long walks is I auto-walk with squad chat (so I don't fill global with wwwaaaaaazzzbbbbbbb), then I use the glory that is X-Fire's ingame browser to watch some Youtube or check the forums or something.
YouTube will lag you a bit, but if you are just auto-walking, you won't notice really.

As commander, when I have a squad that isn't listening to me, or won't move out from their position fast enough... I like to drop a J-DAM on them, it tends to get them moving, and it shows me the potential they have as a squad!

You can fill in max players so that shouldn't be a problem.
I think it 's a great feature for all the non-SMs, something that should've been supported from the beginning but I guess EA/DICE had more important stuff on their heads...
PS: I wonder in what decade they will release patch 1.5  .
