Bypassing the ambush is just what the ambushers expected us to do.

Re: A Quick Hint: Compass

I think he's also referring to designated fields of fire where each member is assigned a quadrant to fire into and all members know each others quadrant. This is to help prevent FF incidents by making sure you don't run into someone else's field of fire if advancing and inadvertently becoming a target.

Too much organization of a pub squad to implement. Hard enough to keep them from running out directly in front of a squads field of fire let alone designating quadrants.

What I find is that a bunch of people do not know west, or 255 Degrees. I think those who dont, not only ruin the whole teamplay based enviroment, but also the realism. If you arent familiar with "squad formations" or "calling out enemy on compass", then get USED to IT.
Colonel - apparently you are one of those that you speak of who cannot use a compass. West is 270 (assuming of course the PR compass is not centered on magnetic north, which, based on the map we play would, of course, change).

North = 0/360
East = 90
South = 180
West = 270

Please, stop coming across as uber-leet, check your spelling and grammar, and quit being so damn condescending. You lose all respect for the mature player base that TG is comprised of.

Thank you.

Poor kid..getting off to a rocky start here..what with complaining bitterly about the way the server kicks for supporting members , buying a SM to be able to play and not be kicked then this.

Settle down young fella.

Re: A Quick Hint: Compass

How long has .7 been out? How long have we had to adjust to this new compass/no minimap? How many players have 100's of hours of playing with mini map to now turn around and adjust, all in a week?

Just some thinking.

Re: A Quick Hint: Compass

The Col. VonLugen is correct in his statements to a degree, I agree with him 90% on the compass + using landmarks. (STATIONARY!!!) If you are afoot, you must keep the landscape in mind along with the direction you are traveling, if you have some experience with this in real life you know that it is a constantly changing bearing. Again, the SL's and SM's must be on the same page constantly. As a caveot VonLugen, you are not dealing with SAS, USAR, USMC or any other branch here. Maybe we should tech these lads some Land Nav skills, until then...consider them Joes or Eddies. Have a nice day.

Re: A Quick Hint: Compass

I haven't played 0.7 yet, but maybe the SOP should be to use relative directions and distances? .... relative to the RP, to the current move-marker, or to some obvious landmark.

"Contact! <direction>, <count>, <distance>"

... so something like

"Contacts! Northwest of RP... at least 2 infantry about 100m out."

or

"Contact! North of the marker, behind the water tower - I only saw one guy

Re: A Quick Hint: Compass

I find bearing particularly useful for tanks, APC's (and probably heli's too). Take bearings off flags, rally's, bunkers etc.

You mean it stays locked, or that the heading turns as you turn?

It should turn as you turn, meaning it is locked on north on the map, so as you turn to face a new direction that heading is shown in the center.
