Re: Unnecessary In-game chatter

As a rule, I generally ignore anything in text on the screen except for the things I need to see like if my kit was given as requested. I guess you can chalk all of that up to my vBF2 days and ignoring all the smack talk and crap. As far as I can tell, the text on our PR server isn't much more useful that what is seen on the average public server. I have seen a few messages that were game related, but most of the chat not game related and is about as interesting as reading a phone book.

Re: Unnecessary In-game chatter

Im kneeling next to a tank, as an engineer and squad 4 sl is in the tank, and im typing in caps enemy blah blah blah heading, light that building up. and he is looking the other way, I type away for a while, just short of dropping the Fbomb on him, he pays no mind to the text... Kaboom... Hat takes him down and me as Im using it for cover. Peolpe dont pay attention to the text. Only every once in a while do i notice something.. but usually its just Stuff rolling in the background.

Re: Unnecessary In-game chatter

Sometimes text is better then voip.

Ive told my squad about a firebase and they are too busy talking. I type it into team chat and the sl tells me a firebase has been spotted and to go check it out

Or if you have a vehicle nearby you can manually spot things I think. AA is a vehicle
Snipers can also spot

Easiest way to shut people up: call "comms quiet!" over voip. If they dont shut up, boot em from your squad. It's simple.

Re: Unnecessary In-game chatter

Today a bunch of us typed the entire lyrics to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song.

Was this spam, or was it fun?

Fun for you but spam too everybody else.

It invites others to spam out lyrics or whatever else they feel like spamming. Call me a party-pooper.

I'll have to admit, that was pretty funny lol. But that was kinda different, since it was near the end of the round and was done in teamchat lol.

Re: Unnecessary In-game chatter

Sometimes, a bit of humour is necessary to remind us all, that it is....a game.

Case and point: The pilot squad

Needless to say, the opposing team was rather surprised...they froze to type "lol" in chat as we shot them to bits!

Re: Unnecessary In-game chatter

The KTA guys have a great balance of gameplay seriousness and still having fun.

I don't think the text spam is really an issue the vast majority of the time when there are lulls in the action or when the game has been lost (like say 420 - 55 tickets), which is when most of it happens. Really we just need to make sure that people stop when asked.

Re: Unnecessary In-game chatter

I think the whole idea of using text chat for relevant information is kind o dull... no offense but barely anyone pays attention to it and those who do are usually the ones spamming it with irrelevant information. Imagine IRL, somebody stops in the middle of a firefight, takes a pencil, writes 'LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU' and shows it to your (by that time) dead body...

If I can't use VOIP because my GF is asleep, I just don't bother playing PR. It 's too frustrating trying to get the attention of my squad using text chat only... even when using the green team chat.
Typing also gets you killed so just buy a mic, unless you have a 6 year old voice .

I tried TS a few times, but even on the team channels things tend to get too noisy for a SL. SM's, CO and TS at the same time drives me mad .

Re: Unnecessary In-game chatter

You would not use it for cqb, its for big stuff like firebase spots or tank needs repairs. I read it anyway

Spot on, Sabre. That's what the in-game text is supposed to be used for.

No offense taken, Ghost, but the whole arguement about ignoring the ingame text because of it usually being filled with irrelevant info is backwards in my opinion... you're missing out on a lot of intel that you wouldn't normally get from your squad. It's the whole idea why I brought up the post in the first place lol.

So please... don't ignore the ingame text :/. Teammates DO spot out gridmap locations of firebases and bunkers and armour via text sometimes..

And ghost.. I have a mic... If you didn't realize, you can't speak to other squads via voip... especially the ones not on TS :P

Having played on Kashan on Saturday night, I'm going to change my tune slightly and say it's useful when you're a plain squaddie and you need a lift across the map.
