yeah...its ALOT cleaner than it was, even 20 years ago. if you look close in the pic of the boat you can see zebra mussels on just about every surface...them little suckes have done a great job of cleaning up the great lakes. of course they are an invasive species, driving out the native small bottom feeders (along with the help of the caspian gobi) so its debateable weather they are a good thing or a bad thing, but over all i think the clean water is worth it. tho i may have a biased opinion on the matter.

I dont know if you saw this but, hes got a mouth piece on his mouth....the snorkel is outside hanging off his head. Why use the air supply on the surface? Hence the snorkle. When you get to the dive spot....airmask on.

Because you need it on the surface, its simple, just to save the oxigen/nitrogen/helium while on it

what they said...for use on the surface...tho often times i swim face up on my back on the surface, so i rarely use it.

When you're close enough to the surface to use a snorkel, it's good to do that as it saves air. If you go below that depth and then come up, you just have to blow hard through the snorkel and all the water in the tube shoots out of the top... so pretty! (You need yo save some breath to do this)
