Out of absolute luck, an A10 was in my area on a different bombing run, and was able to redirect at the very last second to a desparation laser designation that I was able to fix on the moving helicopter...and BOOOM!...laser guided bomb hits the chopper in mid-air and saves my bacon! coolest thing I've ever seen in PRM!
there were only three pilots remember, Eol was the only 1 flying the fighter but it was all we needed . Lucky i didnt decide to strafe the helio or probably u would have been smoked along with them lol. BTW, Your a awesome spotter and intel giver

Re: A10's without spotters...are like...

I agree. And SL's and SF guys not lasing targets is a pain in the arse too. I commanded Kashan 64 a couple of weeks back. The round was at least 2 1/2 hours long, (I had to leave for class so I'm not sure exactly when it ended.) Among other numerous things that will make me think twice about commanding on that map again, the most frustrating was having to mediate between the A10 and my SL's. Apparently they didn't know how to lase but did know how to call for CAS. I tried to help the pilot out as much as possible but without a that laser he was next to useless. Overall I look back on it as a great learning experience but i've never sweat so much when playing PR.

In short, not only for the sake of the grunts but also for the sake of the commander's sanity learn to/ use your laser designator.

Yes..

Yesterday i was a spec op dude in squad, LAZMASTER, and i ran around on foot, with a jeep used for longer transports, to spot out targets and relay. It was extreme fun, i even lazed up troops and rally points and told the pilots to "hit it with their chain gun", worked well. Got quite a few tank kills, i think like 7 or 8 in the end....

I had a similar experiance with being hunted by choppers.. three times i had a chopper come straight up and ram me... first time was a gazell, second and third was the BIG BERTHA... crashed straight into me. As well as this one guy who tried hunting me down. He come up to a building area i was hiding and was just looking around, i heard him behind me turned around and unloaded full auto on him, probably scared him (that spec ops gun is actually quite awesome at close range), he came back for another try but i hid about 50 meters away behind a hill and waited for him to go into the buildings to clear them out.. Then i waited at the entrance prone and popped him in the head.

Best laze though was a tank rushing into our fire base, it got lazed right as it arrived and had a clear shot of the whole fire base + troops and the bomb came on top of no later.. The commander said "wow that was the best bomb i have ever seen".. errr lololol

I like to use spec ops either way because that gun is better for when you are solo, although officer does have more bandages..

The attack was in response to a request for help by US Special Forces, when five Iraqi helicopters were spotted. The lead F-15E of a formation of two (from the 335th) acquired a helicopter unloading Iraqi soldiers through the FLIR pod and released a GBU-10. After 30 seconds, the F-15E crew thought the bomb had missed its target and the pilot was about to use a Sidewinder missile instead, but suddenly the Hind helicopter was vaporized. The Special Forces team estimated that the Hind was roughly 800 feet over the ground when the 2000 lb bomb hit its target. But the air-to-air kill was not recognized until November 2, 2001. They tried to engage the other helicopters but an allied bombing started around the F-15E so the pilot decided to get out.

Great story!!! wish I could get a video of that one!

...babies without their mothers... But really, Spotters are ESSENTIAL!!! For all the pilot knows he could be trying to hit a tank that earlier was all alone but now is surrounded by 3 AA's.

Re: A10's without spotters...are like...

Today I made a jet squad on Kashan and as usually there were no spotters... After circling the frogfoot for about 20 minutes waiting for targets, I finally had a fellow SL lasing targets. I went in for a drop only to find out he had lased 3 friendlies who then punished me one by one... go figure .

Funny thing was, I had my first MIG pilot kicked for a SM, 2 minutes after he took off and got kicked myself half an hour later for the same reason...

Re: A10's without spotters...are like...

spotters are one thing its when u have a full squad that is CAS, there only needs to be 1 spotter and 2 pilots, and also, SL's can spot, too many times have i seen CAS sl's only let their a-10's destroy targets that are near them, or say "send me a transport if u want me to spot there" thats when i reply as a commander "i have a sl there, see the attack marker i sent you and the close are support grid, send your a-10 there and it'll be lasered".
