I hear you there. I seem to be gettign a lot of back-seat-SL's in my squad lately. There is a fine line between suggesting and second guessing. The first is an asset; 6 minds are better then one. The second is worthless, and a waste of time and comms.

Sometimes I don't kick people quick enough and let my round end in ruin with a headache and a bad mood on my part because of second guessing. I should be stricter, and so should you.

The worst was this "fatal......." guy. After second guessing everything I did constantly. Driving me crazy because the CO was blabbing just as much. Then when I kicked him once, he came back, naggd some more, then admitted he didn't like my voice and really wanted an American SL!? I should have kicked that person so much faster, for me, and for my sm's.

This is my "depressed stance." When you're depressed, it makes a lot of difference how you stand. The worst thing you can do is straighten up and hold your head high because then you'll start to feel better. If you're going to get any joy out of being depressed, you've got to stand like this. ~Charlie Brown

It comes with the job, sometimes those don't want to SL and yet feel that everything they say should be followed......now if it was a suggestion, than that would be more polite, not just speaking their mind, i feel for you, i like that though backseat SL'ing, i will usually say "quiet on comms" and if that doesn't work i give a verbal warning and if i get a smart-alec remark, they get the kick.

Al, i apologize to you as well if sometimes while commanding i don't answer you right away, i am just figuring out how to talk to individual squads and sometimes it can be overwhelming when everyone talks as once.

how's the wedge doing? you should make a cartman wedge.

Re: New SL...need some advice.

I dont know about kicking people quickly so much, if they dont want to follow orders then they should change squads theres no agro about it really. Either they are working with you or being in the squad is pointless, some guys will fall in line if you explain that.

Sometimes people will splinter off if the sl isnt to their liking, I think thats a positive thing rather then just moaning or ignoring orders.
All it takes is 3 people to disagree and they can go form their own fully operational squad

I prefer people who can be left to go off and do their own thing but still follow a general order, really I dislike being followed round all the time or asked what to do. Its nice when they dont have to ask because they allready know, at least on the smaller decisions.

Re: New SL...need some advice.

thanx again for all the positive feedback. i would like to add that sometimes 2 or 3 fireteams can be very effective. ( i learned that from being in a squad with one of the TG-irr guys...i just dont remember who. SORRY!). i have to agree with wickens on the only wanting to SL on certain maps, but perhaps its just that i seem to play some more than others (fools road) and have learned from good SL's some good strategies that work well on those maps.

Re: New SL...need some advice.

Guys - do not just kick insubordinate squadmembers from your squad - REPORT THEM TO ADMINS!!! In general chat, type this: REPORTING: playername FOR NOT FOLLOWING SL ORDERS. Simple.

You have to realize that following the chain of command (SL/CO Orders) is as hard and firm a rule as is no-bunnyhopping, no UCB camping, or any other!

edit: by kicking, all you're doing is passing the buck and ruining someone else's round - cause they're not going to follow the next SL's orders either. I bet after one week, if every disobedient squadmember was reported, we'd end up with a clean server.

They bunch up a bit too much in this vid but bounding overwatch /leapfrog can work good yep

i have been wary of reporting people...sometimes on the server there are these petty reporting wars, not ALWAYS, but sometimes it will be something like: "Joe-bob reporting billy-bob for taking my vehicle"...and in retaliation its "billy-bob reporting joe-bob for being a vehicle hog"...and back and forth like that. it gets distraction for everyone's gaming. its never seemed bad enuf to report anyone for (so far) mostly just annoying stuff.

In real life i "command" a group of people (i am a construction foreman) and i try to lead by example, i try to get people to do what i want without being a hard-ass. the "you get more flies with honey" approach...and i have been trying (in my small handfull of times SL-ing) to use the same approach in-game.

LOL !

Al, I think your accent is pretty cool man. First person I've ever met from Kazakhstan! And you shoul also know that I was talking about it with SkudDestroyer the other day, and I think he even said "I love his accent, if my name was BigGaaYSkud, I'd be all over that."
