Jesus F Christ do sniper kits irritate a lot of TG regulars. My reasons:

1. People don't play the kit as intended. You only need 2 people in a squad for a reason many devs have stated over and over: The sniper works best as a 2 man Spotter/Sniper Combo. Taking the Sniper into an infantry squad 9/10 loses the kit to the enemy.
2. Nobody should pick up the Sniper kit until they've read a decent amount of Army FM-23-10
3. Sniper does not make you 1337 or a better shot than any one else. It only gives you the tools for long range shots. That's it.

Oh...I hate them. I would rather have Blue_Balls in my squad. (and I'm not talking about Skud Destroyer's weekend gaming handle.) I think other squad leaders use them for defensive styles of play, but an aggressive infantry squad needs 6 bodies on the ground pushing a flag.

Best snipers I have seen on our server so far make their own 2-3 man squad and use TeamSpeak to talk to other squad leaders. "squad 2, this is LameSniper reporting overwatch on your position at west tower. No contacts." "squad 3, this is LameSniper reporting, you have enemy technical moving in on your position from the east. ETA 10 seconds." "Commander, this is LameSniper reporting, I was just knifed and lost our sniper kit to the enemy because I was not in a 2-3 man squad."

Knife... I never knife people. On the rare occasion i do, theres normally a spotter within 10 feet that kills me instantly cause i dont have my gun out...

I've only had the chance to knife somebody once. I went on a crazy, one time killing rampage on sunset city. I was a SL and we were defending apartments as the PLA. The street to the north that has the median piled up with crates and other flea market type objects was crawling with enemy troops. I came upon one, emptied 10 shots into him, crouched around another corner and wasted another guy. Upon doing that another man popped up in the same place and had the same fate. By then I was out with my rifle...but somebody came up on me to my right but didn't see me. Instead of reloading I pulled out my pistol and emptied that into him from about 15 meters. I looked to my right and there was a SAW gunner pinning down the rest of my squad, but he was looking away from me. He had no clue I was there, and a knife kill felt rewarding





Back on topic. Like everybody else said, the sniper kit should be used in moderation. Never in a 6 man squad, and only in a defensive position. The only exception to this is in a situation you might have on a map such as 7 Gates where there is a large fortification with lots of open terrain inbetween your cover and the flag. A sniper squad could keep the enemy ducking while another squad or two advanced...

Nothing aggravates me more as a SL/SM when someone joins your squad and gets a kit and without asking and its the sniper rifle.......

As a commander one of the things that annoys me is when an SL (mind you if you are a 2 man locked sniper squad and it is needed its fine) gets a sniper kit, and stays in one place, but if its open and more people join and u put a move marker where u want those people to go, and this SL sniper keeps hitting the page down button.....then, why even play on TG?

It might just be me, but using the sniper rifle on any map, isn't always what it seems, sometimes....it's useful.....on ejod it can be useful sometimes, in the beginning towards the middle of a round (zaboo used it perfectly a few weeks ago this way, and so has skud) but on armor/vehicle maps, its pointless....but thats my honest opinion...sometimes i have the patience but i'd rather be trying to take a flag than just lay in one place for hours until that one soldier crosses my target area.

plus I like the Chinese and USMC Rifleman kit a lot more and its more accurate.
