Re: I thought TG was about Team Leadership.
I'm with dispo on this one. Locked squads or not, there is ALWAYS something useful you can be doing to help the team. I can understand how some people dont like squad leading and want to join a squad with some regulars, but there will be times when you just can't. Best two options: Get on teamspeak (where most of the locked squad leaders should be anyways) or get an engi kit and go wrench something with a turret. 90% of the time, a squad will open up. 10% of the time you have to wait till next round or step up and run your own squad.
I've been in this situation before several times when I just don't want to SL & squads were full. It really does test your skills since you can't spawn on a rally if you die! but I know the armor squads greatly appreciated the extra wrench, and the infantry squads appreciated the extra medic tagging along with them.

Re: I thought TG was about Team Leadership.
I'm 100% in agreement with Disposable here. The whining needs to stop, both on the forums and on the server. So listen up, it's time for one of my famous rants.
You all know me at this point. 99% of you who read this have played alongside me on the forums or read my posts here, so you know my game. You either love me or you hate me. But one thing remains solid: I dont mince words and I'm not about to start now. TG is about maturity. It's about teamwork and it's about respect. A big part of those things comes with knowing when a complaint is warranted and when it's just being flat out annoying. Think about that for a second. When a 5 year old doesnt get what he wants, he whines and cries about it to the people in charge, namely mommy and daddy. They deal with it because he's 5. When a teenager does it, he's told to grow up because thats not how adults do things. When an adult does it, he's looked at like a fool for the same reason. So wheres the disconnect here fellas? Do some of us just lack rudimentary problem solving skills? Do we lack the mental capacity to make simple decisions? Are we afraid to show a little backbone and lead? The answer to all of these things should be NO. But it doesnt seem to be. You know what my problem with that is? Threads like this. No offense, but the entire premise of this thread SCREAMS hypocrisy. The title alone bears it out. "I thought TG was about team leadership". Hmmm...so someone posts about lack of leadership and refuses to take responsibility for not stepping up and leading. Make sense to you? Cause it sure as hell doesnt to me! Again, no offense to the OP, because as I've seen he has taken up the leadership role since this thread has run its course, but the premise is flawed. This isnt an isolated incident folks! I can guve you my solid word that I have seen the vast majority of the people who complain about team switching, stacking, or leadership issues are the same people who engage in these activities. It's a classic case of "I complain when things dont go my way". STOP IT. Let me break it down plainly for the folks who cant seem to get the message through their skulls: 1.) STOP WHINING AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. If there is a GENUINE problem, report it to the admins. B**ching and moaning about team stacking/team switching does people no good and just annoys and irritates the crap out of those people who know its nothing but hot air. 2.) STEP UP AND LEAD. Bottom line: if you refuse to lead, you have no right to complain about lack of leadership. If all the squads are locked, try creating one of your own! I promise you, it's not scary and nobody is going to eat you. RTFM and learn to place rally points, set markers and order your troops around. If they dont listen, boot them. If you dont want to lead, find another support role to fill! You know how those of us who are considered "veteran TG players" and "solid squad leaders" and "good commanders" came to be so? We stepped up and worked at it! Maybe instead of blaming the veterans for not playing to your liking, you should become a veteran player yourself and show people how to do it! 3.)THE ADMINS ARE NOT YOUR CRUTCH. Nor are they a shoulder to cry on. If you have a GENUINE problem, again, report it. Have screenshots, fraps footage, WHATEVER you can to back up your argument. Do a little legwork. The admins have a hell of a lot on their shoulders, trying to balance rules and keep the server clean all while trying to enjoy a modest amount of play time for themselves. But people seem to think they are nothing more than personal watchdogs. They're not. Deal with it and help them out a little. 4.)I REPEAT: STOP WHINING. The amount of people who complain about trivial little things lately has reached critical mass and it needs to simmer down some. This has already been addressed in multiple posts over the course of multiple threads and people are really getting sick of it. People would rather waste their breath and complain about stacked teams than play the game, only to find out that the team that they said was stacked winds up LOSING the freaking around by 100 tickets. Way to blow things out of proportion. Base point here kids: WISE UP AND GROW UP. Think before you speak, and if you're going to voice a complaint, make damn sure its valid and objective, lest you be considered a crybaby. We've had enough folks and everyone needs to get that into their heads. So next time you go to cry about something, think long and hard about the content of that complaint and whether or not it's relevant and objective. I dont care whether you like what I've said or not. I'm simply saying whats on the minds of the people who have gotten sick of the way people are acting. Respect your admins who work their asses off for you to have a nice server to play on. Respect the people who step up to command and squad lead. Listen to your team and work together. Find your role in that and play it to the best of your ability. If you lose, you lose. If you win, you win. Who cares? A new round is going to start when the tickets reach 0 anyway and you get a fresh start on a new map to try again. Deal with it.

I vote ferris for president. Or speach maker. Or somthing.
But i agree. When im bored, i make a squad with some random name like UNDEAD, Or FISHTICKS. People join, i tell them my plan, and were off. Works out quite well. Its really fun when they have a sense of humor

Re: I thought TG was about Team Leadership.
At what point do TG members simply make a blanket and form letter statement that is copied and pasted into a reply with the original poster's nick at the top?
This could easily be done if you want. After all at what point do the admins and the members say the same thing worded differently and actually mean it? The 100th post? The 500th post? I vote for form letter. While I sympathize with all new players I also understand the amount of work it takes to make a name for yourself and develop a reputation that gains you access to these squads that always run together. Just to use PRWARS as one example. They always run together. The almost always lock their squad. On occasion if they aren't lock you join up with them. I did after only playing the mod about 10 days. I rolled with them and they thought I had potential. So I rolled with them again the next day and every day I joined for about 15 days or so. I've done this with a number of made squads. I started in January and there are very few squads that refused my request for invite specifically for elitist or snobish reasons. Well TF21 did but they have some kind of star chart crossed with a ley lines full moon thing going on. You have to catch them in a special giving mood when all the constellations are aligned in the right form. I think they sacrifice small children in exchange for their skills. I'm joking of course and giving them hell.. someone has to! ![]()

Re: I thought TG was about Team Leadership.
UK-Warrior I was glad to see on Mestia yesterday afternoon you stepped up and was a SL.
I hope you do it more often, every time you do it, you learn more and more, trust me on that one, each time i SL i learn a new tip to the Puzzle. Mestia is a great map to SL because its fast paced and always changing....and its one map I haven't fully been able to lead successfully yet, but its a work in progress

Re: I thought TG was about Team Leadership.
my first experinece with Pr was simmilar to that outlined in the OP. all locked squads or full. I chose to make a squad called "nubsquad" and went on my way. We got best squad at the end of the map.
For the most part, people that joined were vets and helped instruct me how to SL in PR. A few joined and could not belive how much of a nub I was and left, but the rest really helped me out. The one thing TG is in short supply of is good squad leaders and commanders regardless of the BF game we are playing (2142, poe, or PR). If there are no squads available to join, then start one and keep your plan simple. Do not be afraid to tell your squad that you are new and require thier input on what to do. Another thing you can do as a new SL tell your commander that you are a nub squad leader and that you need an easy task for your crew. |

Re: I thought TG was about Team Leadership.
edited and tired of threads like these to comment on. Because TG is about being mature in game and within the forums.
UK-Warrior anytime you wish to learn some tricks on how to be an SL let me know I will gladly be a squad-member in your squad while you are the SL, same goes for anyone else.

Re: I thought TG was about Team Leadership.
PR is in short supply of COs. It seems to be the same group of players taking the reigns round after round and they get tired of it. We need people to be willing to step up and take the leap of faith and give it a shot. Let's be honest here: In PR, you must have a CO to win 95% of the time.
We do also lack quality SLs. Sure, there are SLs every round, but what percentage follow CO orders. issue their own, drop rallies, try to coordinate their unit with their team, etc. etc. etc.? Maybe - maybe - 50% of them do. If everyone who was SL was doing a quality job, we'd see a lot fewer rounds of teams getting steamrolled and a heck of a lot fewer complaints about "stacked" teams. People need to expand their horizons a little bit. People also need to stop themselves before they complain and instead try to lead. I look at it like people complaining about the government and then not bothering to vote. What's the point other than to make noise?

Re: I thought TG was about Team Leadership.
I bet I could count the CO's that take the hot seat consistenly and effectively on one hand....maybe we could have some kind of....training for this? I'm willing to volunteer some time into this, as it would greatly improve gameplay.

Re: I thought TG was about Team Leadership.
I love being one of those "quality" SL's, but...man oh man, nothing turns my day around like being a CO. I usually do an Ok job when i do CO, i've even turned a couple of games around from extinctions, but for the most part the job is just alot of stress and no action.

Re: I thought TG was about Team Leadership.
I guess I'm one of those players that does a lot of commanding in the commander position. Maybe a class at TG University on "How to be an effective commander" might help in how many people assume the commander position. Should I put up a request in the classes thread for something like this?

Ya that sounds like a good idea. I'm ok at commanding but sure would like to be able to do it better. I have the basics down, I just need to know how to place stuff better. Like droping wire so that you have no gaps for enemy to go through. I'm sure their is more to know.
