Why don't you play Vanilla?

Recently I played a game of Vanilla BF2, to summarize I hated it. I don't think I could ever go back to Vanilla. I love the teamplay of PR and whenever Im playing BF2 can never stop saying "SmackTARD!" in the back of my head...

Some things that happend

1. No one had a Mic

2. Squads never listen to your orders

3. Commander spammed "Roger That" "Enemy Spotted" the whole round

4. I could tell a guy had an aimbot (FAV Sniping Carrier from 500m away)

5. Constant main base strafing by Jets/Choppers

6. Vehicles far too abundant...

7. I got Tked everytime I got in a Jet or Chopper

8. People use the word "Noob" or "Newb" way too much!

Its funny because before discovering PR I never picked up on this stuff. It was just BF2 and it didn't bother me at all...

So, my question to you is:

Why don't you play Vanilla?
&
What do you like about PR?

Re: Why don't you play Vanilla?

vBF2 is not Project Reality. Its a diffrent game

I still play it from time to time

You dont have to have orders, or SL, or comanders. 2 or 3 guys can win a round. Its good times

So true, but that what makes PR different, you need a team. While vBF2 is all individual...

Re: Why don't you play Vanilla?

I don't play VBF2 because:

1. I don't like helo pilots who don't listen and transport your squad into the middle of a battle instead of dropping them off at a safe point.

2. I don't like helo pilots that show off.

3. I don't like helo pilots that hover over your squad giving away their position while spamming "Get in" all the time.

4. I don't like helo pilots who land on top of your vehicle for no apparent reason.

5. I don't like helo pilots who land on top of me, killing me for no reason whatsoever.

Um, wait a minute...

Re: Why don't you play Vanilla?

Most of the things listed aren't about PR, but about TG. It's got nothing to do with the mod, but all to do with the rules, and the efforts by the admins and the community. The TG standard of playing certainsly wasn't different on vanilla, on the contrary even; vanilla was much easier to admin.

This is my "depressed stance." When you're depressed, it makes a lot of difference how you stand. The worst thing you can do is straighten up and hold your head high because then you'll start to feel better. Re: Why don't you play Vanilla?

Vanilla is just another clone of counter strike.
PR is something that actually resembles modern day realistic combat.

Very much along the lines of Operation Flashpoint, which wasn't perfect in it's own right.

Sorry, this is squads in vBF2?

I made a post similar to this a while back, after trying vBF2 (on Karkand, no less) and found it to be a hellish experience. The lack of AAS made me feel ill alone, coupled with the general 'asshattery' of other players. It was a good wakeup call for me to remind me why I love PR/TG so much.

From my point of view this isn't correct. Maybe for vBF2 but not for PR. From .1 till .75 players get forced to work as team, if they want to win the game. Every release was a slight step forward to that point that one can gain nothing, but all together can gain everything in game. So it is not about rules, it is the game itself.

The game is mostly what the players make of it. Go to any random pub in most games and that is what you find. Go to a TG server in any game and find teamwork.

POE2 is quite simmilar to vanilla bf2 and Tg does a fine job of having great teamwork. I suspect if we had enough people interested in vanilla we could have a fine server with lots of teamwork.

The thing is, most people view poe2 as fixing everything that was wrong with vanilla.

Re: Why don't you play Vanilla?

Because TG doesnt have a server there
insane vehicle whoring and TK's.
Insane vehicle spawn time
Whoever goes prone first wins
whoever presses the mouse button first wins
Go to the back of the map and cap a flag there
it does not have Qwai river

Re: Why don't you play Vanilla?

We actually started out with an unranked Vanilla server here at TG for over a year, and had success with it, but the limitations of the game are what they are. I can remember the bombers on Oman just laying waste to the beach area over and over. I remember artillery just dominating Karkand. Claymores everywhere you ran. Grenade city. Etc.

So yeah, TG did the best it could with Vanilla, and it set the foundation for what we have here today, but the mods have really elevated the game to a new level, which is perfect for our teamwork style of play.

Re: Why don't you play Vanilla?

1) Whack-a-mole flags.
2) 99% of the servers feature 0% teamwork
3) l337 h@x0rz and zomg ski||z (or whatever - "Excuse me stewardess, I speak Jive")
4) nerfed guns
5) There's no TEAM in I (already said that, didn't I?)
6) The jet is MINE!
7) The choppa is MINE!
8) The tank is MINE! (I only need 100 more hours for my expert armor badge!!!!)
9) SL is just mobile spawn beacon
10) It's not PR
