Re: Assets: Rules and Respect
Hiya
Yes soon i will return and promise not to be a bad man again!
Naming a squad something Should be a request to the team or commander not a passport to having that asset.
Simply if someone goes commander his request on who gets what asset should apply if possible.
For example If first squad to load makes C.O.S. squad and an unknown to me plans on manning it and I see Originalhero or some other known skilled pilot willing to fly guess who I will pick. So for the team be willing to adapt.
Many times I have seen C.O.S. or COBRA squads formed and they themselves are not organized properly the SL SHOULD BE USING SLOFLAM spotting and communicating with the commander not piloting. If two unknown squads are asking for same asset I ask what the SL plans on doing if one states i'm gunna fly and the other says i'm moving to C4 on the hill with my sniper and Sf man to set a rally and spot the squad organized in that way is going to have the go ahead!
So Dibbs squad names or whatever will never be the end say so in my book! What is most effective for the team will be!

Re: Assets: Rules and Respect
It happens every day - trust me.
Here's my take on the situation:
I am extremely fed up with the behavior of a lot of people wearing the TG tags on the server, especially the newer ones. Every time a map comes up with something that flies I cringe. I know exactly what's going to happen, and 99.9999% of the time it does happen. Fights over assets.
We have several TG players that consistently make locked asset squads as soon as they load into the map. They get designated by the CO to take the asset then, but probably by telling the CO that their squad number is the Huey/Blackhawk/COBRA/CAS squad and NOT the CO selecting their squad as the squad to have control of the asset. That's problem #1.
Problem #2: These players then seem to bully - yes, bully - any other player that comes anywhere near their asset by threatening them that they will be kicked if they touch that asset. Admin! Admin! Admin! You'll get banned if you touch that chopper and on and on and on. Most of the players that are regulars here understand how things work, so they are, mostly, not the ones that try to get the asset. Instead, it is the pubbie player who does. Their introduction to TG is to be berated by TG representatives (yes, that is what you are when you put those tags on - a member of the TacticalGamer PR - as in public relations - team) and threatened with kicks and bans. Now, to top things off, if the player does get the asset, then the admin really has no other option but to remove them for disobeying CO orders.
Who loses out on this? Let me count:
1) The team - as mentioned previously asset fall and go boom, the team is out the asset until it respawns.
2) The admin team. We get a bad reputation as the protectors of anyone wearing TG in their name. The PR community is small - word spreads.
3) TacticalGamer is the biggest loser of them all. We, as in the TacticalGamer family, get a very bad reputation. We look like a bunch of whiners and babies - the toys on the map are for anyone wearing TG and that's it. The admins are jerks and bullies, and you'll get banned for touching a helicopter.
So, DirtBoy is 100% ON THE FREAKING MONEY! IT NEEDS TO STOP! STOP NOW!
Invite people to your squad and let them actually have first shot at flying. Don't created a locked asset squad for once and try shooting your rifle every once in a while. Become commander and give the assets to a squad full of non-TG pubbies. Let the guy not in your squad take the chopper and tell the CO that he is now in control of the asset so the CO knows what is going on.
SPREAD THE LOVE! SHARE THE WEALTH!
I've got news for you - this won't be the last time TG runs Kashan 64! There will be other times, probably within the 24-hour period, that the map will be on again! Heck, it's on all the time anyway it seems!
Start acting like TG players instead of pubbies who put TG on so they can act like they run the place!

Re: Assets: Rules and Respect
Well said. Honestly, all this bull**** is making ArmA look better and better. And yeah, I said it, because bull**** is exactly what we are seeing on the PR server lately. If you are offended, you might want to look at yourself and see if you are part of the cause.
Wonderful. I get nerfed by a auto-censor.
BWAHAHAHAHA!!!

Re: Assets: Rules and Respect
I swear if I hear one more person say "Don't take that chopper it's mine, or else you will get banned!", or "The teams are stacked, look at all the TG players on that side", my head will literally explode!

Re: Assets: Rules and Respect
How does Arma do this any better though? Its a problem that applys to any game and every server I think
I'd like if your crash/sucess ratio was what determined your eligibility to fly so it was not down to squabbling. That might produce elitism though (maybe build up your rep/rank on a half empty server? ie. encourage some practice! ) but either way I'd prefer the game to decide these things
I do think crashing a heli should wreck your teamwork score and prevent you just queuing up again (for that game), consequence to your actions and all..
Only admin can threaten a kick or ban afaik, thats one of the most common ways the rules are disregarded

Re: Assets: Rules and Respect
A lot of it has to do with the fact that ArmA is a simulation game, and not a EA, action oriented POS like PR's source game, BF2. Also, ArmA runs missions, much like the original Ghost Recon, and positions and assets can be assigned before ever entering the game. It's a much more structured game. PR could be this way also, but it would require a lot longer countdown to the map start to allow COs to get in place, formulate a gameplan, and assign squads and assets. This would basically piss off all the whining monkeys who just can't stand waiting or planning anything and have to be constantly moving and shooting at something or nothing.

Re: Assets: Rules and Respect
Likewise, I am bored seeing all the whiners spamming the chat continuously about this, thankfully it is a small minority.
Deal with it like men (and women), and show a bit of maturity, please.... I doubt the admins are too impressed being dragged into petty issues like this and having their time wasted on occasion.
Lets show them a bit of respect by avoiding that situation.

Re: Assets: Rules and Respect
ArmA has a ranking system which is reset at the end of every game. Basically, killing enemies/completing missions gets you points, which go towards your rank. You can use certain vehicles at certain ranks eg: You need to be the highest rank (General, I think) to fly an A10. That kinda eliminates the problem.

Re: Assets: Rules and Respect
I see, so at the start of a game no one can fly an A10 but then in Arma the games can last weeks and you generally play vs bots rather then humans or does this work in full multiplayer also
That is kinda of a queuing system that encourages you to participate in the game, still it basically works off the amount of time you have invested in a game
Can you lose points or rank for losing assets or tk maybe. If you crash the A10 on the runway, do you also get the next one?

Re: Assets: Rules and Respect
I have to admit, today while playing kashan, on the us team, there wasnt a single argument over assets...

I am the leader Of the Zombie Defense Militia. We hold think tanks on how to live in a zombie apocalypse.

Re: Assets: Rules and Respect
I was playing on another server the other day.. Thors Brigade.. and was squaded up with one of the TB guys.. He was a nice guy.. A German.. we were chatting and laughing it up and he asked me..
"Why do you TG guys have such a bad reputation?"
I responded..
"Bad reputation?"
He responded..
"Yeah, alot of people always griping about you guys on the PR forums."
ANYONE can wear the TG tag.. and this might be part of the problem..
If you have |TG| in front of you name.. you must remember you are an ambassador of TG as a whole. Your behavior reflects upon all of us, here or anywhere else. And the sadest part of it, the people that give us a bad name, They believe that the asset belongs to them because they are better pilot/tanker/sniper than anyone else and consiquentially will never change their behavior. If I could wave a Magic wand and make people get along and share, I would.. but I'd wave it over the Palestinians and Israelis first.
Please, if you wear the tag.. play nice, share, and help others to learn how to play nice and share.
