Re: PR versus ARMA

The majority of the ArmA games I have played don't have any, or very few, friendly AI soldiers, so you don't hear any of their odd yelling all the time. The fact that the VON has a channel that is strictly just for those within hearing distance of your voice cuts down on a lot of the chatter you would normally hear over TS and other comms. You have squad channels and vehicle channels also, so you can really just tune in to what you want or need to hear. If you really don't like the AI voices, there is a No Voice mod that will cut out the little that you will experience online.

The ambient noises in ArmA really set the tone, but the sounds can leave a little to be desired, but again, there are many, many sound mods that put in more realistic sounds and really bring the game to life.

Re: PR versus ARMA

My thoughts after getting into ARMA about 1 month ago.

-Patch right away to 1.12

-DO NOT TRY THE DEMO (i did when it first came out year before last or so, and couldn't believe how much it sucked)

-Single player pretty much sucks too. I was pissed I had bought the game after spending a few days on single player, and considered uninstalling. Then on a whim I jumped into the TG multiplayer server and got hooked quick, thanks to a lot of other cool players in TG like in the 4th squad.

-I posted about this in the ARMA TG forum, but we may try to get a noobie night going, so people can come in and not feel like everyone is going to yell at them while they get the hang of it, and just play some fun easy missions. The 4th guys are working on this too.

-It really can be a resource hog, and likes a fast computer, but one guy just the other day upgraded to the new 9600GT card, that you can get for as low as $130, and he went from playing everything on LOW to allmost all HIGH he said. He had a 7900 before that. It only runs single core, but does good now with Vista 64 since the patch. They have already stated that ARMA 2 will be multithreaded (for multicore computers).

-I bought the GOLD version, but turns out it was as waste since it just has some extra single player missions, and haven't even tried them. Should have gotten the $30 basic version.

-If I just want to jump in and play and shoot lots of people, I load up PR. If I want to really FIGHT, and use cover, and be immersed in a game, I load up ARMA. PR feels like a cartoon after playing ARMA.

Think of ARMA as an updated version of the original Ghost Recon game. You can get killed by 1 shot. I have usually at least 1 time each day I play were me getting shot unexpectedly actually cause me to jump in my seat. Like I am leaning around a corner, and I catch a glimpse of a bad guy just before I get a bullet to the head.

The computerized voice bothers me too, but you get used to it.

There is more, but I suggest you check out the arma forums for it.

Also, here is a video I did last weekend just of some random fraps video.
In the video you will see the guy crawling around on the ground. It is because he is wounded and can't get up. He is trying to drag himself back to a medic.
Also at the beginning of the video, it was actually dark out, and we had NVG on, and in the 2nd clip you can see that the sun had come up, and it was bright daylite out.
Also below is a link to the full size version, and it is very worth the download. It is not as jerkey as the flash version, and it is widescreen, so it isn't squished to 4:3.

If you get the little pop up video, click on the words on the top of the video at the beginning of the video so you will go to the actual site and watch the bigger version.

Download:
http://www.divshare.com/download/4124359-b1f

Here are a couple of the pics, but they are not as good as the original because they were way over the imageshack size limit
And as for map size, it will really blow you away. It is just trying to surround a city (the pics blow) but from the 1st shot to the 2nd, it was about a 10 min. run.

Re: PR versus ARMA

He's got it set higher than normal. I run ArmA on the normal settings, but Bamboo has a bit more graphical capability than I do so he is on high or better to get it to look like that.

Re: PR versus ARMA

Looks good especially that last pic there.

I like this video because it shows the viewdistance on arma is much better. In PR even on kashan the bf2 engine fails with a giant wall of nothing for a horizon.
Actually now I remember some guy saying its down to the map specs for the misting, it should be 0 - 1000 not 900-1000 or something like that

What gfx do you have bamboo

Top (ingame?) sounds on this one

Re: PR versus ARMA

Wow I love that soundtrack for that flight video...

Whats better Chammys mod sounds or the FDF? They both seem pretty good

Is their a desync mod? Heard something about it one time playing that slightly helps out desyncing while playing but not sure if im believing it or not..

Any mods to help out with graphics?

Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABWiV...eature=related
Just a awesome added effects video I saw, nice explosions...

Then another reason Arma>BF2 Engine: You shoot a heli in general in BF2 it blows up, in Arma, if the stinger goes to the cockpit its going down no doubt, if you shoot it in the rear rotor blade area itll fall realisticlly spinning and everything...

Re: PR versus ARMA

Is the regular arma a lot less graphics card intensive than the demo? Cause the demo seems to lag a lot to me on low lol.

Re: PR versus ARMA

I don't know about the demo, but ArmA is pretty graphically intensive. Still, I am able to run it on the normal setting with a 7800GS card.

Re: PR versus ARMA

ArmA shouldnt even have a demo either that or make an actual demo.. The demo they have is an extremely poor example of the game.
