Re: What brought you to PR and then to TG?

Well for me it was the other way around...
I was playing POE and heard about TG, So I checked them out and I LOVED IT. I had never played with people that actually follow orders and function as a squad. When I checked to website I saw PR under BF2 mods so I downloaded it and have been playing it since.

Re: What brought you to PR and then to TG?

I actually came to TG first, after seeing a FFoW video on youtube. Found out that FFoW is loaded with bugs so turned to BF2 and noticed this PR mod.

I only played a few hours yesterday evening, but I got hooked. Teamplay was great, tactics present, people weren't calling me a noob for asking stuff about the mod (which is a nice change).
And off course a real sense of danger. Didn't get in that many firefights, but knowing it could happen in a blink is just thrillling.

You know they're out there somewhere, but where?

Re: What brought you to PR and then to TG?

I started with TG because I was tired of playing BF2 where no one would either talk or squad up. The game was fun, but the potential to play realistically was not being utilized on BF2 normal games.

I joined PR because once I played it, there was no going back. It is part the community of serious gamers, part the tactics, but mostly the experience of being in a squad that actually works as a team. That is the reason I stay and play here. The realistic squad level teamwork is like no where else.

Re: What brought you to PR and then to TG?

College buddy of mine got a "sick" computer back in 1999 (pentium 0.75ghz if i remmeber correctly) and he got me hooked on the original Command & Conquer (OMG I'm OLD...)
I played RTS games like C&C, Starcraft, & Age of Empires for a long time until I got hooked on America's Army and first person shooters. I Spent more time drinking and playing pool in college than playing computer games though.
After college, I played a little NovaLogic's Black Hawk Down and Joint Operations for the next 4 years, but rarely had time while I was getting raped in med school.
I took a year off after graduation when I screwed up my back surfing... and I totally got obsessed with BF2 after looking for a new game & something to do while I was recovering. I got hooked on stats and found myself playing this darn game almost 30-40 hours a week. I was sadly one of those guys in the top 50 for the first few years BF2 was out. Waaay too much BF2...
I got picked up on a tournament team & stopped pubbing vanilla BF2 while joining Team-Warchild 3 years ago. We played any tournaments we could find, winning some $15,000 together as a team playing in competitions.
Maybe 2 years ago, I found myself telling Warchild guys over and over "I'm sick of vanilla, I wish I could find some ex-military players that really knew how to be organized..." No one had a clue that PR was even around.
My luck changed though! and I kid you not, I was talking to a Geek Squad guy in Best Buy one day, and while talking about gaming I said to him "I really wish there was a realistic game out there" he laughed and said "Have you heard of Project Reality?" and I sped home to find it.
I played on the TG server just because I had a 15ms ping. I didn't know the great community behind it & found myself playing for points, stuck in a vanilla mindset camping spawns and trying to be the top scorer on the team. After getting kicked a few times for "discussing" things with the admins and dropping a few bad words, I finally saw the big picture. I started visiting the forums and cleaned up my act (a little). I have not played vanilla BF2 since my first game of PRM...

Re: What brought you to PR and then to TG?

One day some jerk (in actuality, a beloved clan member ) says on the HBD forums: "Hey, you guys should try Project Reality. It's cool!"

So next thing you know, I give in and download it. Played a round on Mestia with the clan member that said it was cool, and I hated it. It was boring, drawn out, and I died instantly without hitting my target.

So I'm all like WTF, and don't play for a few days.

Then I try it again at his urging, but on Kashan. Tanking caused me to try it again and get into it. After that, I got the feel for Infantry fighting, then squadwork. It all kind of fell together.

So another clan member (marineseaknight to you) shows up talking about TG one day. I find the server and come on. FIrst thing I did was get in a squad with a few TG people in it, and it's about the best experiance I have ever had in PR. As a medic, people actually needed my help. Every other squad ran out with 1/6th health left and coughing up blood only to get wasted. You guys actually say MEDIC and ask me to heal you. Plus, we move together and as a group.

It's such a simple thing, but so very very vital and enjoyable to actually WORK together.

So that's how I found TG and how I decided to make every effort to play here first before trying anywhere else.

Re: What brought you to PR and then to TG?

From a pretty young age I was always an RTS player. I was addicted to Age of Empires II online, I think I only played about 2 proper "deathmatches", most were custom made games which I loved. I liked the idea of altering the game to basically produce anything you want, however that was as far as I got with mods until much later.

When BF2 was released in 2005 I pretty much played nothing else. I would take little breaks now and again but I would always return to the same game, I don't think I've bought new game since COD4. BF2 just feels like home for me, I learnt a lot about the engine mechanics and just stupid little things that not too many people knew.

After getting some of my RL friends into BF2 we would always screw about on that, I never really could be bothered finding a clan/community at that point because I purely wasn't interested. I have no idea why I even played BF2 really, I wasn't interested in my score or my k:d ratio unless I told myself I wanted to get the high score at the start of the round.

Anyway, fast-forward to around December 2007, I decided to dabble into these new fangled "mods" all the cool kids were talking about and stumbled upon PoE2. I remember the awe I felt being reminded of crazy pixelated custom scenarios on AoE. It didn't take me long to figure out that the TG server was the prime server over there. Even if it wasn't very populated at that point I would hang around there and have some fun.

Somehow, I ended up downloading PR 0.4, completely randomly. I enjoyed this for a bit and came back much stronger in 0.5 where I ended up getting addicted to the damn game. Once again, from PoE I noticed the established TG name and decided to join the forum a bit later when I found out about password nights. I have played here exclusively ever since.

Re: What brought you to PR and then to TG?

I started out playing PC games back in DOS Mode. I still have the first game I played on it. Called Urban Siege, it was the early version of the Mechwarrior Series of games from Microsoft. Cannot remb. the year but it was early 90's. I now I started playing Mechwarrior 2 and 3 around 1995 on windows, and that was hell of a jump from DOS mode. I played very heavy Competive in the mechwarrior Series all the way up to MW4 black Knight, in the Vengance League (VL) and even worked on alot of the mechtek stuff that was released after Black Knight. (I am still a big Mechwarrior Nut, have all the games.)

Somewhere around 2002 or 2003 when ever BF42 came out, one of my Friends From mechwarrior got me over on that, and at first I HATED IT, from playing Mechwarrior so long.
But somehow I got into and got competive in it and have been playing the BF series ever since. Though I have stop playing competive in Leagues, I am still very agressive and play ever game like it is a Match. ( People that have been in my PR squads have learned that a little, I get very mean sometimes.)

I found TG a couple years ago and at first I did not much care for it, used to doing things my own way when I played, but somewhere along the way I changed and I am here now.

I play about 10 or 15 diff games and mods now, and alwas try to find the TG servers to play on. (Unless I feel like screwing around and then I find a diff. one, so I can cause hell.)

Great stuff all, and Warehouse - never would have pegged you for a surfing MD. Thanks for posting so much. Also shows us all we should give our local GeekSquadders a chance.

As for me, I started with the usual Doom/Quake shoot-em-up lines way back when and somehow found CS during grad school, which to me at the time was novel in that it was team/squad based. During my postdoc (as in, after Ph.D.), a friend of mine got me into RavenShield, which had teamwork plus realism, to an extent (I still miss the leaning/peeking...). My friend moved after his postdoc (same lab) ended and we still kept up by playing RvS online for a while. As things go, tho', that didn't last forever. I then found BF2 vanilla and was intrigued by its game setup (vehicles, squads, etc.). I soon was looking for a "RavenShield-like" version of BF2, and ended up choosing PR around about 0.5. It was a noticeable adjustment.

After getting into PR, I found that I had a great ping to TG, and then quickly found that TG had great play, especially with serious enough SLs and SMs willing to follow orders, and so had a great time, eventually. (This is despite the fact that I was in many ways WAY behind many vBF2 players -- I think I went so soon to PR that I didn't even know there was a difference between Killed and Critically Wounded...)

Cheers to TG and its gamers. I don't get online much, but when I do, I am happy to help out with a bandage, wrench, shovel, or very patient rifle.

Tman leaves out alot. Back in high school he got me hooked on wargaming as we blew thru old SSI boardgames as fast as we could find them. Then of course there was Avalon Hill's Squad Leader series, we spent hours with our friends on that.... very detailed, very complex simulation of squad level combat.

After high school PC's kind of became the new thing. Im not sure how TMan's progression went, but mine was something like this...

I got an Apple IIc and used to play Crusade In Europe and Decision in the Desert. The first FPS I tried (if you call it that) was Castle Wolfenstein.

After a few years the Apple faded away to be replaced by my first IBM clone.
From there, the FPS's I went thru were:

Doom
Quake
Ghost Recon
BF 1942
Unreal
BF Vietnam
HL/CS
BF2
and finally...

Project Reality.

I've never vanilla'd since.

Re: What brought you to PR and then to TG?

Cause Im a flipping GAMING GOD!!!

But seriously, I was getting bored of BF2 so I was browsing the web for BF2 mods and there it was on the top of the list... Project Reality! I tried out a lot of different servers. Click 21, still don't know what language thier speaking. 10th Mountains, accents can be hard to understand and I hate asking people to repeat themselves, I feel rude. Then Texas Teamplayers (CRAP), constant baserape and no teamwork. BTW Texas Teamplayers Vannilla server is actually pretty decent. Then Tactics and Teamwork, no admins and a bunch of rule breakers. Then the god sent! TactcalGamer. I actually think I was first in a squad with Dirtboy. The teamwork blew my mind. It was awsome and I still remember that first game on Zatar Wetlands...

Lmao how could I forget, I was banned. I layed a mine not realizing I could TK with them (Fresh out of vannilla). An APC rolled over and 5 punishes later I was banned. But I was unbanned the next day (Thats how responsive the admins are!). And I've played TG ever since.

Re: What brought you to PR and then to TG?

Well for me PR was the reason I bought BF2. At first I hated it (Mostly because I kept getting shot and I counldn't hit a thing) but I then ended up enjoying it when I got better. I came across TG since it was one of the few open servers and I enjoyed it since it was easier to find a good squad on here than other maps. Now TG is one of my favorite servers (Which is sad since I earned myself a temporary ban just yesterday).
