Punk Buster is Spyware
Hi all,
I just started doing some research on this, it follows from my previous post.. "somthen strange", goggle "Punk Buster and spyware" and get ready to get scared. I didnt know that PB scans our entire hardrive contects and can upload .txt files to their servers. This sux, its a catch 22, if you want privacy, you cant play games that use PB, the catch... PR is the only game I play. Anyways I guess their is nothing we can do about it. Big brother is watching. What r your thoughts... Cheers |

Re: Punk Buster is Spyware
Yes it does.
You have 2 options: 1. Play with cheaters on PB disabled servers 2. Stop playing. ![]() I <3 this spyware PB can also kick you if you hide porn movies in your game files. How would I know? Americas Army had some dumb kids.

Re: Punk Buster is Spyware
Punkbuster is spyware?
I must laugh sir. You know windows can scan your entire hard drive and it too can upload text files to the microsoft servers. Does that make it spyware? No. Its an intentionally run program that scans for anomalous files that would impede a game from running in accordance with its programming. Any instance of said files is reported to punkbuster. If you were unaware that PB is running in conjunction, it's your fault for not reading when you installed the game. That being said, spyware is malicious software that is run without the user's authorization or knowledge. Punkbuster doesnt fall under these specifications. Lets think before we cry wolf kids.

Re: Punk Buster is Spyware
its a completely different type of spy ware. Its looking at certain files and locations that hacks and .txt files can be changed. So dont worry you are not going to be getting more spam mail becuase of it.

Re: Punk Buster is Spyware
Seen discussions about this all over TotalBF2 and other network sites by people claiming the same thing, I will tell you what I told all of them.
I would rather have this 'spyware' on my PC and be able to play on servers knowing that I'm on a level playing field than play somewhere where everyone is running cheats. Sure pb aint perfect, they've dropped the ball a couple times before and it does seem to disagree with some people configurations, but overall the BF2 multiplayer environment is far better off with it than without it.
